  U.S. Representative Robert Aderholdt
to Speak to KDS Graduates

U.S. Representative Robert Aderholt will be this year's commencement speaker at Kate Duncan Smith DAR School.  Congressman Aderholt is currently serving his ninth term representing Alabama's Fourth Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives.  He is a member of the powerful House Committee on Appropriations, which has jurisdiction over funding the operation of the federal government.  As Chairman of the Subcommittee on Agriculture, he supports greater transparency, accountability and oversight to the appropriations process.  The Congressman is also a member of the Commerce, Justice and Science; and the Defense Subcommittees.

  2015 KDS Alumni Banquet

The 56th annual meeting of the Alumni Association of Kate Duncan Smith DAR School will take place on Saturday, May 16 at 6 p.m. in the DAR Lunchroom on the KDS campus.  The annual Alumni Banquet recognizes all graduating classes in the school's 91-year history and, in particular, honors the newest graduates, the Class of 2015, with the awarding of several college scholarships.

All KDS alumni are encouraged to join the Alumni Association and attend the banquet.  Membership dues are $5 per year. The cost of the banquet is $15 per person, or $20 at the door.  To make a reservation, contact Scott Pace (Class of '92) at pacewil@gmail.com or 256-728-8414.

Friends Both Near and Far Support KDS

For many years, DAR members, alumni, and friends have supported KDS and its students by directly donating supplies for the health clinic, school supplies, band instruments, classroom and art supplies, books, etc. And the 2014-2015 school year has been no exception. School supplies have been donated in abundance, new shoes have brought a spring to the steps of many students, the libraries have been enhanced by books thoughtfully chosen for students of all ages; just to name a few of the wonderful items provided by the friends of KDS from near and far.

If you have a "Did You Know?" article about KDS School, the Grant community, or the state of Alabama that you would like to share with readers of our monthly newsletter, submit it  to Heather Green at hgreen@nehp.net.  If you have pictures in a digital format that relate to the article, submit them along with the article.  Many of our readers are new to the area and do not know the wonderful, rich history of KDS School and the Town of Grant.  I am sure they will be enlightened with something that you know and take for granted that everyone else knows too.
