KDS Gem Sustained Giving Society
Becoming a member of the NEW KDS Gem Sustained Giving Society is a secure, easy and effective way to support KDS and its students. Members demonstrate an ongoing commitment to KDS by making a modest monthly donation, creating a stable and reliable source of income for essential school programs and services. These donations add up over time and make a lasting positive impact on the school and the students.

ASDAR State Conference
The Alabama Society Daughters of the American Revolution continues to champion the cause of patriotic education with its avid support of KDS. ASDAR Angels were definitely in action during the 117th Alabama Society DAR Conference in Auburn, Ala., on March 6-8. KDS representatives manned a sales booth and talked with interested ladies about the projects and programs of the school.
The Alabama DAR Conference also serves as a 'dress rehearsal' for the school's newly selected Continental Congress representatives. During the Saturday morning DAR School Breakfast, KDS juniors Alex Prickett and Erin Sutphin spoke about what makes KDS such a special place to gain an education. And as the featured speaker for the breakfast, Luke Bailey (KDS Class of 2011) shared his story with attendees.

A group of nine that included KDS Executive Director Heather Green, KDS staff member David Gamble, the FFA String Band, and senior student representatives Kaleb Gowan and Laura Grace Ayers traveled to San Antonio March 4-7 for the Texas Society DAR State Conference.
During the DAR School Forum on Thursday afternoon, Heather gave a presentation about the school including its history and current programs and projects. The String Band also performed during this meeting, and Kaleb and Laura Grace spoke about their experiences as students at KDS.

Winter Weather at KDS
Frigid temperatures and the threat of ice during the last two weeks of February caused safety concerns and closed schools all across North Alabama. But on February 25, Gunter Mountain finally received the snowfall the students had been praying for. The winter storm left 11 1/2 inches of snow, blanketing the KDS campus in white and making national news headlines. On March 5th Gunter Mountain awakened to freezing rain that covered the trees and everything else above the ground. The record snowfall and ice event caused no major problems for the school and made for a truly beautiful and picturesque landscape.

If you have a "Did You Know?" article about KDS School, the Grant community, or the state of Alabama that you would like to share with readers of our monthly newsletter, submit it to Heather Green at hgreen@nehp.net. If you have pictures in a digital format that relate to the article, submit them along with the article. Many of our readers are new to the area and do not know the wonderful, rich history of KDS School and the Town of Grant. I am sure they will be enlightened with something that you know and take for granted that everyone else knows too. |
