President General Merry Ann T. Wright met with members of the KDS delegation prior to the Thursday evening session.
KDS DAR School was well represented during the 122nd Continental Congress of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Washington, D.C. June 24-30. Executive Director Heather Green; KDS teacher Beth Cagle; KDS staff member April Pendergrass; Board Chairman Peggy Johnson; and student representatives Samantha Spark and Michael Davis enjoyed a busy week of meeting with Daughters from across the country and throughout the world to share with them the story of KDS, the "Gem of Gunter Mountain".
Michael and Samantha show appreciation to Mrs. Wright and Mrs. Raymond for their support of KDS and its students.
KDS received a nice surprise in the form of contributions from the Friends of DAR Schools Fund and the National School Chairman's Project pin sales for 2010-2013 during the Thursday evening session of Continental Congress. President General Merry Ann Wright, along with National School Chairman Donna Raymond, made the presentation following the KDS School report.
A highlight of Continental Congress each year is certainly the Junior Membership Luncheon. This year's "A Golden Celebration" event highlighted the 50th Anniversary of the Outstanding Junior Contest and the 75th Anniversary of the Helen Pouch Memorial Fund.
Outdoor projects include new landscaping at the Nan Roberts Lane Chapel .
The summer months provide KDS teachers with a little down time to rest and re-energize for the school year to come, while the administration and school maintenance staff, including 15 students employed through the summer work scholarship program, busy themselves with facility renovation projects that must be completed while school is not in session.

If you have a "Did You Know?" article about KDS School, the Grant community, or the state of Alabama that you would like to share with readers of our monthly newsletter, submit it to Heather Green at hgreen@nehp.net. If you have pictures in a digital format that relate to the article, submit them along with the article. Many of our readers are new to the area and do not know the wonderful, rich history of KDS School and the Town of Grant. I am sure they will be enlightened with something that you know and take for granted that everyone else knows too.
