This 12-page publication contains important information about expenses and income, specifically contributions, as well as other significant statistics and details of the school's accomplishments during the calendar year 2012. Great articles, project updates, and a comprehensive donor list are included as well. If you have already received the Annual Report, please note that there is an error on page 3. The pie chart depicting expenses indicates an 18% allocation for Administrative Expense. The correct amount of funds spent on Administrative Expense is 10%. We apologize for this error.

In the early spring of 1960, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Wright were appointed by the Executive Committee of the KDS Board of Trustees to contact graduates of the school to form an Alumni Association with the idea of fostering and coordinating support for the school's activities and garnering a desire for connecting with former students.

Members of the Twickenham Town Chapter, NSDAR, of Huntsville spent the day at KDS recently. Nearly 40 ladies were present for a brief Chapter meeting, a tour of campus, lunch in the Lunchroom with the students, and a visit with their adopted 2nd Grade class. The group capped off their visit with a tour of the Nan Roberts Lane Chapel.

Members of the Virginia DAR cleaned out their closets and donated like-new formals to the girls at KDS. Virginia Daughters Emmalee Morris and her mother Adele drove from Salem, Virginia, in late March to deliver hundreds of formal dresses to share with the students.

KDS Participates in Wellness Programs
KDS students, faculty and staff were recently given the opportunity to receive free health screens through wellness programs made possible by the Northeast Alabama Community College School of Nursing, the Alabama Department of Public Health and the Public Education Employees' Health Insurance Program (PEEHIP).

Recipes from the Famous Basket Luncheon
Macaroni Salad - Mrs. Billy Joe Rice
1 7 oz. pkg. macaroni (2 cups dry) 17 oz. sweet peas (drained) 1 cup luncheon meat (diced) 1 cup mayonnaise or salad dressing ½ tsp. seasoned salt ¼ tsp. seasoned pepper 1 cup cheddar cheese (diced) 2 Tbs. salad oil 2 Tbs. vinegar 1 Tbs. onion (minced) 1 cup celery (diced)
Cook macaroni according to package directions. Drain, do not chill. While still hot, drizzle with oil and vinegar. Add onions, seasonings, and cheese. Toss well. Gently mix in meat and remaining ingredients. Chill thoroughly. Serve on a bed of salad greens.
The late Betty (Mrs. Billy Joe) Rice worked for many years as the KDS High School secretary/bookkeeper in the 1970's and 80's. |
