SMB Medical Billing
Introducing our EHR and PM systems
Chad Bixler Business Development

SMB saw that our clients needed a real-time cloud-based  Electronic Health Records (EHR) and Practice Management (PM) reporting systems that was responsive to our clients' needs as podiatrists - a system that is truly integrated with the humans doing the actual medical billing. SMB's EHR and PM reporting system are included for free with SMB's Medical Billing service.

SMB Medical Billing has created true value for you. We have provided a truly integrated service that includes EHR, Practice Management, human billers and 4-tier transparency. Our 4-tier transparency allows you to "look over SMB's shoulder". It includes the cloud based systems, standard reports, ability to create custom reports and access to individual claims and data points.

The name of SMB's EHR is SimplyEHR and it has received ONC-ATCB certification. What this means to you is that you may apply for stimulus money without incurring any costs for an EHR system.

SimplyEHR is built on a 24/7 cloud based real-time accessible platform. This flexibility allows you to follow your own work schedule and work from any personal computer using a browser. SimplyEHR provides free access to free E-prescriptions. Moreover, it is scalable, saves cost on computer hardware and insures data integrity.

The name of SMB's Practice Management system is SimplyPodiatry.   The advantage of SimplyPodiatry to you is your ability to monitor, in real-time, all of SMB's activity for your account from anywhere you have internet access.

SimplyEHR and SimplyPodiatry are included, at no extra costs, with SMB's Medical Billing Service. This includes use, support and maintenance. In addition, SimplyEHR and SimplyPodiatry are ICD-10 ready and you have unlimited data upload at no additional costs.

SMB created SimplyEHR and SimplyPodiatry with highly skilled technicians, podiatrists and over 175 years of collective podiatry billing expertise. The result is an EHR and Practice Management System that produces value to your practice.

Deadline Approaching for Submitting eRx Significant Hardship

A major Electronic Prescribing (eRx) Incentive Program deadline is approaching for both individual eligible professionals (EPs) and group practices participating in the Group Practice Reporting Option (GPRO).  If you are an EP or an eRx GPRO participant, you must successfully report as an electronic prescriber before June 30, 2013 or you will experience a payment adjustment in 2014 for professional services covered under Medicare Part B's Physician Fee Schedule (PFS.)

The 2013 eRx Incentive Program 6-month reporting period (January 1, 2013 to June 30, 2013) is the final reporting period available to you if you wish to avoid the 2014 eRx payment adjustment.

If you do not successfully report, a payment adjustment of 2.0% will be applied, and you will receive only 98.0% of your Medicare Part B PFS amount for covered professional services in 2014.

Avoiding the 2014 eRx Payment Adjustment
Individual EPs and eRx GPRO participants who were not successful electronic prescribers in 2012 can avoid 2014 eRx payment adjustment by meeting specified reporting requirements between January 1, 2013 and June 30, 2013.Below are the 6-month reporting requirements:

  • Individual EPs - 10 eRx events via claims
  • eRx GPRO of 2-24 EPs - 75 eRx events via claims
  • eRx GPRO of 25-99 EPs - 625 eRx events via claims
  • eRx GPRO of 100+ EPs - 2,500 eRx events via claims

Exclusions and Hardships Exemptions
Exclusions from the 2014 eRx payment adjustment only apply to certain individual EPs and group practices, and CMS will automatically exclude those individual EPs and group practices who meet the criteria. CMS may exempt individual eligible professionals and group practices participating in eRx GPRO from the 2014 eRx payment adjustment if it is determined that compliance with the requirements for becoming a successful electronic prescriber would result in a significant hardship. Requests for hardship exemptions must be submitted by June 30, 2013. More information on exclusion criteria and hardship exemption categories can be found on the Electronic Prescribing (eRx) Incentive Program: 2014 Payment Adjustment Fact Sheet.

Starting this summer, we will feature a member from our executive team in upcoming newsletters. Our first member is Tammy Coetzee. She is our Vice President of Corporate Communications/Technology. Tammy is in charge of implementing the EHR system.

I have been married for 10 years and have 3 wonderful boys ages 18, 15 and 8. They all keep me very busy on the weekends with sports and music. I have lived in Lee's Summit for the past 10 years. I grew up in the Kansas City area and then moved to Louisiana for 5 years and then to New York for 5 years. I had to come back to my home state (and get away from the snow in Buffalo!). I love spending time with my family at the lake during the summer, and watching my boys grow and blossom into the fine young men they are.

This is my 5th year with SMB and I've loved every minute of it. I enjoy helping doctors as well as the staff with any questions that arise. I've been working on developing new tools to help aid in the complex changes that are taking place with EHR incentives, and the ever changing policies and procedures.

  • I enjoy running and participating in 5K's.
  • I'm definitely an adrenaline junkie and can't wait to go sky diving again!

  • Assist you in any way I can with EHR implementation and training.
  • Keep you updated on any changes in policies or procedures with Medicare or the healthcare industry in general.
