Water Main Closure Update
The water main replacement work under Paulina at Wilson will continue Monday morning from 7am to 12pm. The intersection of Paulina and Wilson will be closed during this time so the crew can finalize the connection of the new main into the existing one under Wilson Avenue. Additionally, crews will begin working on the new water main under Sunnyside from Paulina to Ashland next week, and that will lead to closures of Sunnyside, including Monday morning that will overlap with the Wilson closure for a few hours. Please do not use Wilson or Sunnyside for your commute on Monday morning between Ashland and Ravenswood, and avoid the area, if possible.

Welcome New Business: Swedish Covenant Immediate Care Center, 2019 W. Irving Park Road
Swedish Covenant Hospital will be opening a second new immediate care center on Chicago's north side in order to provide community members with access to convenient, quality health care for a variety of non-life-threatening emergencies. The new center, which opens in the North Center neighborhood (2019 W. Irving Park Rd.) on August 3rd, will offer extended hours of care for adults and children over 12 months old. Swedish Covenant Hospital opened its first immediate care center in Sauganash in June which is already serving a significant and growing number of community members.
"I am pleased to further expand our services into the North Center community and surrounding neighborhoods, including St. Ben's and Hamlin Park," says Swedish Covenant Hospital President and CEO Mark Newton. "This continued expansion is a vital part of our mission to provide patients with the right care, at the right time, in the right place. I am confident that the Swedish Covenant Immediate Care Centers will fill an important void in our community and provide patients with high-quality care, even closer to home."
The centers will offer a range of services:
- Treatment for minor illnesses such as: colds, flus, upset stomach, allergies, ear infections and skin conditions
- Treatment for injuries such as: sprains, broken bones, minor burns and animal bites
- School and sport physicals
- Vaccinations
- Point of care lab work and X-rays
- Results sent to patients' primary doctor
The two new immediate care centers will offer extended weekday hours (8 a.m. to 8 p.m.) and weekend hours (8 a.m. to 4 p.m.), to increase access to care for busy families. Additionally, walk-in appointments will make it easy for patients to get treated for urgent illnesses and injuries.

Flowers for Bikes this July for Working Bikes
 Local flower company Flowers for Dreams creates beautiful bouquets, delivers them by bike, and donates a quarter of their profits to a different Chicago charity each month. Since Flowers for Dreams launched in 2012 they have donated nearly $63,000 to local nonprofits.

Plastic Bag Ban Starts August 1 - Stores 10,000 square feet or larger will no longer be providing the thin plastic bags at checkout. Remember your reusable bags, or use those being provided by some stores for a small cost or for free. From our Riverbank Neighbors who volunteer to care for the riverbank. There will be a riverbank workday on the east side of the river, from Berteau to Pensacola this Saturday, July 25, from 9-12:00. We will be building fences and retaining walls, watering, and weeding. Many hands would be welcomed.
There will also be workdays on the following Saturday, August 1, same times. This year we have planted thousands of new native plants on our bank, mainly on the new areas created by the bank stabilization project. We have also installed beautiful new fencing and stairways. Many more are planned, including sturdy benches to rest on along the river's edge. Please remind visitors to stay on the pathways provided, and not to enter planted areas. - Don't do laundry or run the dishwasher when it's raining
- Disconnect your downspouts. What will happen to the water if you disconnect the downspouts?
- You can catch water in a rain-barrel, remove grass from your lawn, parkway and corners, plant native plants, &/or create a rain garden.
Mother Nature is going to do what she does. Fewer permeable surfaces are inevitable. Yes, you can make rain-storms a non-issue. These are easy ways to make a difference. Lawrence Avenue Streetscape
- Landscaping work has been delayed, but will soon be performed along the rest of the project. Sod will be installed in mid-July since the original shipment was of poor quality and new topsoil will be added before plants are installed. Dead and damaged trees will also be replaced along the entire corridor. As always, please pay close attention to parking restrictions as crews will need to access these areas.
- New stamped asphalt will be installed to connect Claremont Plaza to Giddings Plaza starting Monday at 8am In Claremont Plaza, the brick pavers were adjusted and additional work will include a new fence to shield the dumpsters, which is expected to start in late July.
- There have been some issues with sidewalks and curbs/gutters spalling and the contractor will be removing and replacing a number of sections along the corridor. We will provide additional information on replacement timelines when they become available. This additional concrete work will extend the final project completion timeline.
- The new traffic signal controller at Damen was recently installed and timings have been adjusted. Remaining electrical work, which includes additional traffic signals, is expected to be completed by late July.
- Gateway identifier poles and bike arcs were recently installed and neighborhood identifier poles and banner arms are in place. New benches and trash cans were also installed along the corridor.
- Remaining punch list items (including bike symbol markings) are scheduled to be addressed by mid-August.
As always, pay close attention to parking restrictions.
Ravenswood Metra Station
- The new station opened in early May (west side, for outbound trains)!
- Metra Phase II: Design and engineering work is currently being performed for improvements to the east side of the tracks and will be put out to bid once complete. Construction of the 11 new bridges and new station (east side, for inbound trains) is expected to start in spring 2016 will last approximately 18 months. Work on the east side will move faster than on the west side since the track is currently in place there and extensive retaining wall work is not necessary. The middle track will also be removed as part of this project.

Concrete has been poured in the trenches on every street except Eastwood. No parking is in effect, where needed, from 7am to 4pm M-F.
