Every Sunday afternoon this September, the Sunday Play Spot will transform one block of Lincoln Avenue, from School to Roscoe, into Lakeview's pop-up plaza! From noon to 4pm, stop by the Sunday Play Spot to enjoy free playful activities for kids and adults alike, or relax outside and have a picnic. Sunday Play Spot is organized by the Lakeview Chamber of Commerce in partnership with SSA 27, 47th Ward Alderman Ameya Pawar, and local businesses and institutions.

Interactive public art installations, including the 50-foot "Orange You Glad to See Me?" by Latent Design, help to set the stage as much of the block becomes a playground with fun and healthy active play activities and games for all ages, from hula hoops and Zumba classes to cornhole tournaments and sidewalk chalking, all hosted by neighboring businesses. Take-out food specials on the block also provide a great opportunity to make a lunch picnic on the pop-up lawn in the middle of the street. Event participants can expect the same fun atmosphere every week, while some programming will vary from week to week. Special programming this Sunday, Sept. 14, includes puppet making with Stage 773, kids eyewear show and music show outside Eye Spy Optical, and the Jeni's ice cream cart. As a part of their 'I Love Northcenter' development efforts, the Northcenter Neighborhood Association invites you to join them for their fall fundraising event, Harvest Moon: an evening of small dinners with big conversations.

On September 19th at 6:30 pm, the NNA will hold small dinners of Northcenter neighbors at a few homes across our neighborhood. After enjoying a delicious meal with great neighbor-to-neighbor conversations, all the smaller dinner parties will come together to enjoy music and dancing in a final host's back yard.

The dinner parties will run from 6:30-8:30 pm. After that the smaller parties will meet for music and dancing at a Northcenter backyard. The price per attendee is $50. All food, beverages, and entry to both the smaller dinner and larger final stop are included in your ticket price.

You can request to attend a dinner with a few other attending friends or neighbors. Parties will range in size from 6-20 people. Simply register and then email info@northcenterneighborhood.org to request to be assigned to a party with a few friends. Please note -- they will work to honor your requests but cannot guarantee it. 

Can't make it to the dinner, but still want to join the party? We have added an option to attend the after dinner event! Join us from 8:30-11:00 pm for music and dancing. The price for this level of attendance is $25 per person. This will include dessert and drinks.

As you may know, the Northcenter Neighborhood Association is a volunteer run organization. We work hard to provide relevant information to the residents of Northcenter, engage with local officials to maintain the safety and beauty of our community, encourage green development and environmental practices, facilitate community conversation and generally promote Northcenter as a great place to grow a family or business.  

Harvest Moon will be NNA's only major fundraising event for the year. Attending will not only be an amazing opportunity to connect with your neighbors, but will also support the NNA's community-building efforts and our valued services for the entire year!

Tampopo is a Japanese cultural program from pre-schoolers that aims to expose children to the richness and wonder of the Japanese language and culture. Thruogh Japanese songs, stories, arts and crafts, and various other activities, children and parents taking part in Tampopo are exposed to native spoken Japanese along with the spirit of Japanese festivals and folklore. Tampopo is not only educational, it's also fun and exciting for both children and parents!

Ravenswood School offers a comprehensive school tour on the second Tuesday of every month that school is in session. We'll gather at 9 a.m. in the multi-purpose room, grab a cup of coffee and set off to observe classrooms, discuss the curriculum and learn what makes Ravenswood School a truly hidden gem. Sulzer needs your old games.  Thanks to our neighbors who have donated games for the Sulzer's Game Night!  If you have games that your family no longer uses, please bring them to the 47th Ward Office or to Sulzer Library. Their ever-popular "Game Night" could use a few more board games like Sorry, Chess, Life, Uno, Jenga, Rummy Cube, etc.

LV2 Notes - LV2 parking restrictions apply to concerts at Wrigley Field and WILL be in effect for the Zac Brown Band concert on Saturday, September 13th. Remember to check the schedule at  www.cubs.com since game dates and times are subject to change. Please note that a night game has been scheduled for Thursday, September 18th, which was not on the original schedule.

McPherson School Outdoor Project

Work has begun and is expected to last through the end of September.  The school will be managing drop offs and pick ups during the construction. 

Lawrence Avenue Streetscape 

• Street paving between Western and Ravenswood has been completed and thermoplastic striping and stamped asphalt crosswalk markings have been installed along this stretch. The stretch of Lawrence between Ravenswood and Clark will be paved in mid- to late-October. As always, pay close attention to parking restrictions.
• New pedestrian refuge islands (including ADA compliant ramps) have been installed along the entire stretch between Western and Clark. ADA ramps are being installed to line up with the street crossings at the pedestrian islands.
• Sidewalk and curb/gutter replacement is being finished up along the last stretch, which is on the south side of Lawrence between Ravenswood and Clark.
• Bike racks and benches will be installed in mid- to late-September and chairs will be installed later this fall.
• Sewer and electrical work continues along the corridor. Most of the new street light poles have been installed and old poles have been removed.
• The remaining plantings between Western and Damen (including Claremont Plaza) are expected to be performed in mid-September and any remaining landscaping work will be finished up next spring along with other punch list items.

Water Main Replacement for Ashland Avenue between Irving Park and Lawrence

Contractors working with the Dept. of Water Management have begun replacing the water mains from 1897 under Ashland Avenue from Irving Park to Lawrence.  Phase 1 (northbound between Irving Park and Montrose) will continue through late September.  The new water main is in the ground from Irving Park to Berteau, and crews will begin installing services September 15.  Residents have been notified to expect intermittent shut-offs during the service transfers.  Main installation will continue from Berteau to Montrose over the next week. M-F, 7am to 8pm, the roadway will be closed to all traffic and parking will be restricted on the northbound side of Ashland during working hours.  Clark St. will be the designated detour during this time.  For more information on this project, please click here.

Water Main Replacement on the 3500 of Leavitt and Hamilton

Contractors working with the Department of Water Management are working to replace the 1891 mains under Leavitt from Addison to Belmont, Hamilton from Addison to School.  Street resurfacing will continue and finish next week.  For full information on this project, please click here.

• Leland Ave Full Closure will be up until mid-September.  
• Ravenswood from Lawrence to Leland Ave Full Closure will be up until Fall 2014 on the west side of Ravenswood.
• Ravenswood (east side) between Ainslie and Winnemac blockades may be in place on the street to make room for the work to be done however there is not a parking restriction when workers are not present.
• Ravenswood (west side) between Lawrence and Grace landscaping projects are underway along the base of the walls along the Metra tracks.  Short closures will be necessary to install the new plants, so pay attention to parking restriction signs.
