Dear Neighbor,
I am very excited to announce the official launch of a new 'Friends of Lake View High School' called #GROWLakeView. The #GROWLakeView initiative is being led by my office, the offices of Ald. Tunney and Ald. Waguespack, the new Lakeview High School Principal Scott Grens, the Lake View LSC, and members of our community. The goal of #GROWLakeView is to build community around the high school, ultimately developing a strong neighborhood K-12 system in our community. The launch event will take place on Thursday, July 10th, 2014, at 7pm at the 47th Ward Office. Since taking office in 2011, I have made #GROW47 and 47th Ward neighborhood schools my 'all-in.' And in three years, we've invested millions of TIF dollars into 47th Ward schools, allocated hundreds of thousands of aldermanic menu funds for school playground projects, and secured over $400k in private funds for neighborhood schools. I am proud to report that as a result of #GROW47 and the incredible community partnerships, EVERY 47th Ward neighborhood school is moving forward on a major capital improvement project! To complete the #GROW47 vision of building a neighborhood K-12 system, #GROWLakeView and #GROW47 will be working with Principal Scott Grens to advocate for resources, apply for grants, raise private funds, and build community around the school. In addition, DePaul University, Northwestern University, and Microsoft will be working with #GROWLakeView to brand the school and reach out to feeder schools. Over twenty of our neighbors have already signed up as founding members of #GROWLakeView.
