The intent (yi) and will (zhi) make up the reality of the heart/mind;
they build the heart/mind throughout life.
It may be surprising that together they direct the vital spirit, and the hun and po.
The zhi and yi are in fact the implementation of all of this. They are the volition.
What are the spirits if they are not the result of the heart?
And the heart is the functioning of the zhi yi.
The heart is not found in the character for the spirits, or the hun and po.
But the heart is within the characters for will and intent.
So the heart, through the zhi and yi, is the link to my actual and present life.
They are the reality of my present life.
from Aspects of the Spirit Elisabeth Rochat de la Vallee PP.168-9
The work this year will focus on our position to Life itself. The Central Axis. Lecture, question, work with the Classics will bring alive the 5 spirits, in particular the Yi and the Zhi. Development of Qi in the channels via particular points will bridge theory into clinical practice and life. Ethics of practice will be emphasized for greater stability and depth of service. Part of every workshop is interactive, practicing our capacity to relate with each other to become instruments of the CF at the level of the Body, Mind and Spirit.
Maine: The Yi / The inner disposition : St. 23, St.36 and Sp.20
"When the Heart applies itself, we speak of Intent" Ling Shu Chapter 8
Vermont: The Zhi / The outer orientation: Du.4, Bl.60 and Ki.4
"When Intent becomes permanent, we speak of Will" Ling Shu Chapter 8
NCCAOM approved PDA's for these Workshop Days (including 2 pda's for ethics requirements)

Guidelines for Teaching Clinic
1. Practitioners bringing patients for consultations will participate in the teaching clinic for a minimum of 1 full day.
2. Practitioners bringing patients pay tuition for teaching and oversight of patient treatment.
3. We will do our very best to accommodate scheduling of your patients.
4. Please let your patients know that occasionally there will be circumstances when a treatment will run longer than planned. This could mean some delay in the treatment beginning or running a bit longer. If the patient has no flexibility in her/his schedule, the practitioner is to inform Laura or Noah Stelmok at the beginning of the day. We work with respect to scheduled times as closely as possible.
5. The Teaching Clinic is kept vital by participating practitioners. The teaching is to train and inspire excellence in practitioners and to provide exceptional service for their patients. Some patients will utilize the treatment services of the teaching clinic over time for cultivation and work that reaches toward potential and/or work with chronic illness.
6. We have a 48 hour treatment cancellation policy. Except in cases of true emergency, fees will be charged for missed appointments. Practitioners are responsible to communicate this to their patients and to secure missed appointment fees.

A physician is a human working as the arbiter of human destiny-
If we are not determined there is nothing we can do!
A needle follows the principle of depth through subtlety-
We must be taught by the very best of men.
First examine the source of disease,
Next apply yourself to the points.
At once you see results-in reply to the needle, immediate effect!
Thereupon understand the dark behind the dark-
And begin to reach into the mystery within mystery-
This work is not exhaustive,
Merely a summary outline of the essentials!
