Jade Flower/Ren.18/acupuncture point over the Heart on the sternum
It is the purest form of all the qi produced, and can, therefore, be associated with the corresponding purity and beauty of jade. In ancient China, jade was considered pure water which had come from the mountains and become solid. It was, therefore, identified with Heaven and thought to reinforce the vital spirits, preserve the deterioriation of the body and prolong life. Spirits were even thought to live on jade as if it were a food. Jade was originally used in the worship of Heaven and Earth. Jade was considered to be particularly rich in De or virtue.

Songs of Creation
4 Alchemical Odes from Antiquity
To cultivate the Heart and
Discipline of the Practitioner.
That we are led to the Depths of OurSelves,
of Creation and Our Time.
Medicine for The Heart of Humanity.
May we work without wake
and hasten to our task.
A physician is a human working as the arbiter of human destiny-
If we are not determined there is nothing we can do!
A needle follows the principle of depth through subtlety-
We must be taught by the very best of men.
First examine the source of disease,
Next apply yourself to the points.
At once you see results-in reply to the needle, immediate effect!
Thereupon understand the dark behind the dark-
And begin to reach into the mystery within mystery-
This work is not exhaustive,
Merely a summary outline of the essentials!

Song of 12 Points Shining Bright as the Starry Sky
and Able to Heal All the Many Diseases
_________________________
We have to get used to it, that a person and society are just one thing as far as the communication of life is given. As for the law and the organization of society with official duties and so on, that is different, it is organization by law. But above the law there is the law of nature which is about things as they are, and it is proper to the living being to be incorporated in this bigger group.
So if the sovereign is not really true to his mandate the twelve charges will be in danger. To be in danger, wei, is a typical Chinese expression. The character shows a man who ventures onto a rocky hill and does not know how to get down. This is a dangerous situation.

Didactic and Clinical Training
Theory and 4 Protocol Treatments
The Essential Skills for Becoming Teachable
by and for The Ancient Songs
This is the 2nd Residential Retreat to Receive this Song.
Please join us for this remarkable Gathering.
___________________
4 Patients/7 Days. Theory and Clinic every day.
Tutorials following all treatments.
Some of the treatments will utilize a portion of the protocol.
Some of the treatments will use the entire protocol.
There will be clinically varied uses of the protocol: directionality, gender, in conjunction with other points, time of day, and more.
Indications. Points. Point Location. Procedures. Vibrational Movements. Diagnostics and Assessment. Needling. Follow-up treatment. Treatment as Ritual.
This particular protocol utilizes choreographed "mudras" passed down from antiquity, in the shaping of practitioner and patient, the instruments of the Song. These shapes are not written down. The vibrational integrity of the movement of this protocol, point by point, will be remembered, to the best of our collective ability. The individual training of the practitioners will be rigorous, very personal, and will happen in the one on one relationship with Laura during and after the treatments.
Training in the Song of the 12 Points Shining Bright as the Starry Sky requires the Practitioner be willing to be changed. The Vibrational Invitation of this protocol connects, by the will of the Divine, the Practitioner to the Density and Light of Heaven. This protocol reveals and can release the prisons that we live. A truth serum that dissolves, even shatters illusion, and therefore disease. This protocol can, like a sacrament in the West, consciously and ritually tie the consenting practitioner to the line of Teachers, the thread of The Tradition. A commitment not unlike the Sacrament of Marriage. And as the title of this Song promises it is 'Able to Heal all the many Diseases'. It is reknown for working with Gu Syndromes, and it is our intention to be able, through this protocol, to reach effectively into some of the severe Gu Syndrome Diseases of our time. The alchemical fire that is built within the movement of this Ode, at the hand of The Teachers who pass this forward, asks for the increased committment and endurance of the Practitioner to her/his own development and to the Living Tradition of this Medicine.

"With support use the rule of support; with severance, use the rule of severance. All 360 holes do not escape these 12 strange charms; healing a disease is like magic; A torrent whirling as wind-driven snow, the Northern Dipper sends down its true workings. The Golden Lock teaches us to snap it open. One truly clever can pass this on; the unfaithful have only restless talk."

A way In and Out, safely.
Questions frequently asked by students
-Can you talk about the points for the ID's and ED's and the
functions of each? How exactly are they all tied together?
-What exactly is possession from a chinese medical point of view? How do you accurately diagnose the need for such a treatment and likewise how do you know when it has cleared?
-Can you talk a bit about how this might cover up the ability to
distinguish CF? Why exactly is this?
-Do you communicate with the person that their life is going to be altered? What is your responsibility to this?
We began to talk ethics when we started the conversation, and I'd like to hear more about that. Ethics and safety and vast unknown questions.
-Can a possession keep someone alive? When do you say "no" to doing this treatment?
-Can you diagnose the difference in origin of the xie qi? From internal, external or miscellaneous causes of disease?
-What if the treatment goes wrong? What are the risks?
-In school the use of this protocol is talked about as a response to a negative, harmful phenomenon. Studying with you I'm understanding that there is much, much more gray area. The power of Earth and Intelligence of the 10,000 so much more creative and unknown. How do you approach an ID treatment with respect to the patient and all of the 10,000 beings?
-How does this get set up in a person?
Do you do any practice(qigong, meditation etc) on your own to protect yourself energetically?
-Have you had any treatments that don't go even after repeated tries?
-Is there a common denominator that people feel after their true qi has been restored?
-Does this level of obstruction ever happen slowly
or is it usually immediate?
-How does trauma and/or drugs/alcohol and/or western ideas of "mental illness" play in?

Song of the 13 Ghost Points
The Rooting of the Spirits
The re-establishment of True Qi
Didactic and Clinical Training
Theory and 4-5 13 GP Treatments
4 Patients/5 Days. Theory and Clinic every day. Tutorials following all treatments. Some of the treatments will be done in traditional trinities.
Some of the treatments will be using the entire protocol.
There will be clinically varied uses of the protocol: directionality, gender, in conjunction with other points, time of day, and more.
Indications. Points. Point Location. Procedures. Vibrational Movements. Diagnostics and Assessment. Needling. Follow-up treatment. Treatment as Ritual.
Training in the Ode to the 13 Ghost Points requires the Practitioner be willing to be changed. The 13 Ghost Points work with the undue influences of Earth upon us. Attachments. Addictions. Trauma. Emotional Habits. The programming of our culture and family. Our refusals and the hauntings, personal and collective, that influence our capacity to live Heaven's Mandate. The Song of the 13 Ghost Points unravels these influences, transforms what is influenced by Earth back to its Source in Heaven. The alchemical fire that is built within the movement of this Ode, at the hand of The Teachers who pass this forward, asks for the increased committment and endurance of the Practitioner to her/his own development and to the Living Tradition of this Medicine.

Information about Treatments
The Treatments during these Intensives can require many hours. It would not be surprising for a treatment to run 10 hours. The average length of a truly alchemical treatment would be 5-6 hours. The aim of these treatments is to remove/transform any obstruction or vibrational pattern responsible for major struggles in the life of the patient, obscuring the mandate of heaven, and, most importantly, to re-establish their true qi.
"The Neijing tells us that the healing process is not just mechanical-it is not simply the placing of a needle. The most important thing for healing is the relationship between the practitioner, the spirits and the patient. It is the practitioner's spirits which enable him/her to make the diagnosis, choose the points and give a feeling of rightness to the patient at a high level-without interfering with the patient's freedom. The treatment always takes place inside of this practitioner-patient relationship."
Taken from a seminar given in 1990 by Father Claude Larre and Elisabeth Rochat de la Vallee,
from the Ricci Institute in Paris and the European School of Acupuncture.
* The treatments can take anywhere from 3-10 hours.
* Each treatment is highly individualized, therefore it is impossible to say exactly how each will come to life for each person.
* The treatments will utilize the protocol that is being taught. Occasionally there will be other points included, e.g. seasonal horary points, window of the sky points and/or relevant points from the patients CF. Sometimes, as part of this process, the treatment will move beyond the realms of needles and moxa into Daoist Practices. It is quite likely that there will be some external expression of the treatment during its progression e.g. rearranging position of treatment table and or chairs according to 4 directions, lighting candles, use of sounds/colors, etc.
"The spirits move because all the surroundings of the treatment room encourage them to be moved in order to rectify the pattern of the vital animation of the patient. The spirits move also because the right signal is given by the point (which is chosen), by a needle technique or movement (which is also chosen) and because there is present in the practitioner a well-rooted and upright direction of her own life. All these operate together to try to give a pattern for the equilibrium and calming of the essences and spirits in the patient. The only way anyone can be cured is by the movement of the spirits.
Remember, though, that one cannot make the spirits move-one can only LET the spirits of the patient rectify themselves. If one creates the correct conditions, the spirits will come. One cannot force them to move-one can only make it an attractive alternative. (In other words, offer the spirits what they like!
The birds choose the trees, not the other way around."
Father Claude Larre and Elisabeth Rochat de la Vallee
Self Care
It is our experience that these seminars stretch all participants physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. Please know that we follow the Tao and this living Tradition of Medicine which is given and given, so freely. We are in the practice of the most ancient service given to humans. Our attention is on becoming responsive and teachable to this gift. Personal habits of comfort are less important during these intensive teachings. This is an opportunity to follow the current of the Whole, rather than the habits of personal hygiene (body-mind-spirit!).
PLEASE tend yourselves carefully in preparation of this work. This means enough sleep, HYDRATION, psychological care and when possible a gentle focus in traveling here. Enough time to travel with minimal emotional disturbance, please. Maintain all current medicine regimes. Please do not make any sudden changes in pharmaceuticals/herbal remedies around the immediate timing of this weekend.
If there are any concerns about your personal health, please make certain to let Laura and Noah know before the workshop begins. Every effort will be made to accomodate you. Please plan on a day (or two) of rest and integration following the weekend. The vibrational demands of the Intensive require a conscious process for each student in the rooting back into daily life. The importance of this transition cannot be overstated.

New York City
Beginning in Fall 2013 we will begin an on-going monthly group in NYC
for anyone seeking the guidance and company of this ancient Light of Oneness.
People will arrive from all Directions.
A woman once asked me, "Is there a way into the other place, here on Earth?"
I said, "yes. There is a door between this room and the other.
For every person its size is subtly different, for it has the shape each being makes when on their knees.
No one enters the rose garden unless lost in adoration and wonder.
No one walks through that door except on their knees."

Her/His light may be compared to a niche

"Our way is that of group discussion. In solitude there is renown and in renown there is peril. Welfare is to be found in a group. Those who follow this way find great benefit and blessings in group meetings."
Baha ad-Din Naqshband, A Bead of Dew
For millennia, the Sages of all Essential Traditions have observed and watched over Life.
We gather to learn and discipline these rigorous and time-tested practices of observation:
awakening the senses, cleansing the Heart,
the capacity to preserve and interract directly with the seeds of Life.
We gather to tend a diminishing light in our People, our Planet, our Time and our Selves.
We gather to mend errors that have injured our own lives and the life of our planet.
We gather to preserve and watch over the Light.
These are Disciplines given to craft the human,
disciplines that fire the ethic and purpose of each individual.
Perennially passed, hand to hand, heart to heart.
These are Disciplines to purify and strengthen
the Physician, the Artist, the Human Being
that, together we become able to reach to the Source of Life.
We come together in the ancient way of servants of truth:
a gathering of Muses, a gathering of Friends,
sharing food, time, conversation,
a living tradition of teaching and fellowship,
companionship For the Opening to Love and Purpose.
Love is the single greatest Power in Creation.
The group has no religious orientation; it is open to all.
What is needed is the desire for truth and the
willingness to work on oneself in the deep company of others, in service to the Whole.
We will come together for one full day every month.
Please contact us, by clicking here if you are interested and would like to be contacted when we secure times and dates and location.
We will be having an introductory evening in early Autumn 2013.

Laura Barnard Stelmok *** Received her Bachelor's Degree from Bowdoin College '83 in Religion and German. She studied Acupuncture with JR and JB Worsley at the Worsley Institute of Classical Acupuncture in Florida and the College of Traditional Acupuncture in the UK, receiving a Licensure, Advanced Licenciate and Masters Degree in Acupuncture in 1992. Laura continued her post-graduate clinical training with the Worsleys until 2001. From there she spent 5 intensive years studying Five Element Acupuncture and Rooting Shen with Niki Bilton, Master Practitioner and Teacher. More recently she has participated in several teachings on the 13 Ghost Points with Jeffery Yuen, a Taoist priest, herbalist and acupuncturist. * Laura has been in private clinical practice since 1991. Her practice, Stillpoint, has been in Rockland, Maine since 1996. She teaches post-graduate 5 Element Theory and Clinical Supervision groups in Maine, Vermont and New York. These advanced study groups began in 2006 as an informal extension of her passion for the deep transformational nature of the clinical work. These diverse, highly interactive, and rigorous Clinics reach far and wide now. How to become a truer and more potent instrument of the Light of this Tradition. Students now fill these groups from most every tradition of healing, as the disciplines from the Taoists and the Light of the Ancient Alchemical Songs are appllicable to all. The teaching reaches toward practitioners who are in school or thinking about entering acupuncture school as well as senior practitioners who have been in practice for decades. * In addition to the practice of 5 Element Taoist Medicine, Laura collaborates with working artists, the ones called to carry the seeds of what longs to be born, bringing the disciplines of ancient medicine together with the urgent call to the Muses of our Time. * Alongside of her studies and practice in 5 Element Acupuncture, Laura, beginning at the age of 24, apprenticed and worked with teachers Alexandra Merrill and Joyce Weir. The work spanned 20 years in small, highly interactive training groups of women, where the inner individuation work of Self was woven inextricably with the daunting political challenges of our time. Leadership Training that rooted itself in the forgotten body of the Feminine, routing out the habits of oppression and alienation between women. * Laura is the first President and Program Director of The Unseen Hand: Medicine from Antiquity/ A Gathering of Physicians, Artists and Scribes which is currently in the 501(c)(3) application process to become a nonprofit for the Preservation and Teaching of this Tradition. She currently lives in Rockland, Maine with her husband and son. They devote their life and labor and breath to the golden thread of Teachers that return this Medicine to Our Time. |
Dearest One and All.
Our deep gratitude to you who sit with us at this Portal of Learning.
Those who were here before, those who are here now and those yet to come. Blessed Be.
We gather as physician's, as patients, as artists, as teachers and students, as wayfarers.
Our sense returned. Our Heart utilized. Our minds disciplined.
To remember the Ancient Songs of this Tradition.
(They are so very needed here and now.)
To become Teachable to this Living Tradition of Medicine, that we may become Servants to and for It.
As our disciplines strengthen we are able to extend our Hand to individuals in need with far greater depth and precision. As individuals and as a group of devoted humans.
The clinical training remains at the center of our attention for both practitioners and patients.
For this collaboration there is no end to the happiness bestowed.
We encourage you to pass this invitation on to any colleagues, friends, fellow students/travelers in this Classical Tradition that you believe might wish to join us. Please contact either Laura (laura@theunseenhand.org), Noah (noah@theunseenhand.org) or Meg (megdellenbaugh@gmail.com) with any questions or requests. The study groups are alive with and for each practitioner who is present.
With deep regard to each of you.
