Lake of the Ozarks, Mo. - Warm weather and the Lake of the Ozarks are natural summertime companions.  The Lake offers so much to do, both on and off the water, it earns its name as the "Fun Lake."  Read on for tips and story starters about summer at the Lake of the Ozarks.

 

JULY 11, AUGUST 8, SEPTEMBER 5

HOT SUMMER NIGHTS  

The Lake of the Ozarks offers vintage vehicle cruising fun all summer long with Hot Summer Nights.  The event is held the second Friday night of each month on the Bagnell Dam Strip in Lake Ozark from 6-11 p.m. (rain or shine).  All makes and models of cars, trucks, and motorcycles will line the Strip and cruise around.  Hot Summer Nights is a family-friendly event offering giveaways, helicopter rides and entertainment.  Admission and participation in this fun event are free, though there is a fee for some of the activities.  For more information, go to CruiseHotSummerNights.com.

 

JULY 19

AQUAPALOOZA 

The Lake's largest family boating event will be held July 19 for an on-the-water party at Dog Days Bar and Grill. The Lake of the Ozarks Marine Dealers Association invites all boaters to join them for live music and activities all day long.   Dog Days restaurant is located at the 19 mile marker by water, just west of the Grand Glaize Bridge and at 1232 Jefferies Road in Osage Beach by land.  For more information, visit FunLake.com/AquaPalooza.

 

AUGUST 2

GREAT BAGNELL DAM DUCK DROP 

Bagnell Dam Duck Drop Experience thousands of rubber ducks falling from the sky as the largest duck race in the Lake's history takes place on the Osage River below Bagnell Dam.  The event begins with a golf tournament on The Cove course at The Lodge of Four Seasons on Friday, Aug. 1.  On Saturday, the fun continues with the 5K Waddle/Run at 8 a.m.  At 10 a.m., the Family Fun Zone opens with clowns, bounce houses, duck ponds, duck painting, puppet shows, vendors, food and live entertainment.  The ducks "fly" in the Duck Drop at noon.  The first duck to cross the finish line wins $5,000 and 11 additional prizes will be awarded.  Participants are encouraged to "adopt" ducks, for $5 each, before the event at the Bank Star One locations in Lake Ozark and Osage Beach, Central Bank, Paul's Grocery or any Ozark Coast Kiwanis member.  Ducks can also be adopted at the Family Fun Zone on the day of the event.  All funds raised remain local & are distributed to non-profit organizations via the Ozark Coast Kiwanis Organization.  For complete details on where and when to get your duck, go to GreatDamDuckDrop.com.

 

AUGUST 23-24

LAKE OF THE OZARKS SHOOTOUT 

See the boats "fly" by in the country's largest unsanctioned powerboat race, as competitors thunder down the Lake individually

against the radar gun for top speeds.  Last year's record-breaking speed was 224 mph.  Powerboat Magazine calls it one of eight "must see" events from across the country. Captain Ron's Bar and Grill is once again the headquarters for Shootout events beginning Aug. 16 and concluding with racing days on Aug. 23 and 24.  Visitors can enjoy all the events concluding in the naming of a new "Top Gun."  For more information, visit LakeoftheOzarksShootout.org .

 

SEPTEMBER 11-14

LAKE OF THE OZARKS BIKEFEST 

Lake of the Ozarks Bikefest Feel the rumble as motorcycle enthusiasts cruise into the Lake of the Ozarks area for the 8th annual Lake of the Ozarks BikeFest.   The scenic Ozark hills offer some of the nation's most scenic rides, drawing bikers from around the country to this event.  The event also features live music and entertainment, multiple vendor villages and a custom Harley-Davidson bike giveaway.  The Lake area's bars, restaurants, hotels and campgrounds welcome the 10,000 participants that thunder to the Lake on two wheels each summer.  For more information, go to LakeBikeFest.com. 

 

SEPTEMBER 12-13

LAURIE HILLBILLY FAIR

The community of Laurie pulls out all the stops for this annual festival at the Laurie Fairgrounds.  The event celebrates its 45th anniversary in 2014 and includes all the activities of a traditional community fair.  Festival-goers can enjoy a parade, carnival rides, live entertainment and the crowning of Hillbilly Fair royalty, as well as games and food vendors.  To learn more about the Hillbilly Fair, visit www.cityoflaurie.com/hillbillyfair.htm.

 

SEPTEMBER 20

LAKE OF THE OZARKS AIR SHOW 

The 4th annual Lake of the Ozarks Air Show takes off Sept. 20 at Camdenton Memorial Airport.  The annual event began as a way to honor the commitment of active military and veterans, as well as add a late summer event for the Lake of the Ozarks community and visitors. 

 

Show attendance has climbed from 4,000 people in its first year to approximately 15,000 and is described as a "top-notch, do-not-miss, must-attend air show at the Lake!"

 

The air show is in the planning stages for 2014 and will have aviation acts similar to those that entertained crowds last year, including historic aircraft, stunt flying and skydiving. The event is enjoyed by people of all ages - from the Korean and WWII veterans who remember the sound of the B-25's engines to children who wait for the event's Ping-Pong ball drop.
