Get a Jump on Summer Fun at the Lake of the Ozarks

Summer Boat Lake of the Ozarks, Mo. - Summer is on its way to the Lake of the Ozarks and vacationers know what that means - plenty of fun in the sun.  However, visitors don't have to wait until the mercury climbs to enjoy this beautiful vacation destination.  The month of May offers many activities that are a great warm-up to summer fun.  Read all about what's coming up for the spring and summer seasons in this edition of the quarterly Lake Breaking Newsletter. Get Your Motors Runnin' ...

Lake-area visitors that like to hear the purr of motors and see the gleam of chrome make the Magic Dragon Street Meet Nationals a spring "must-see" destination.  The event, to be held May 2-4 this year, lines the historic Bagnell Dam Strip with all makes, models, and years of cars, trucks, and motorcycles. There were more than 1,100 vehicles in last year's silver anniversary show and organizers expect the 26th annual show will break records, in numbers of vehicles and attendees, this year.

The show's unique location on the historic Bagnell Dam Strip creates an "American Graffiti" atmosphere with the Strip's offering of food, shopping and kid-friendly activities like arcades, bumper cars and batting cages.  Because the road is closed to all traffic except Magic Dragon participants, visitors can cruise or stroll safely up and down the Strip.

The vehicle show starts on Friday, May 2, at noon.  The show runs from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday and from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday.  Judging occurs on Sunday morning, with winners in each category announced at the closing awards ceremony at 1 p.m.  Last year's Best in Show was a cherry-red 1955 Chevy Bel Air.

Each year, Magic Dragon offers the opportunity for participants to win a "future classic."  The Lake Ozark Daybreak Rotary Club is offering 2,000 tickets, selling for $20 each, to win a 2014 Chevrolet Camaro.  The proceeds for the event are donated to local charities.
