Fire Damage Checklist: Preparing for the Aftermath

In this basic Fire Damage Checklist, you'll walk through the essential steps for dealing with a fire damaged unit.  From immediately submitting an insurance claim to working with adjusters and contractors, you'll find this checklist to be a handy reference for the must-dos when faced with the aftermath of a fire. Although we hope it never happens again, it's always best to be prepared.

June/July 2014
There's a lot going on this summer at Epsten Grinnell & Howell. If you haven't visited our website recently, now is the time to check it out! We've revamped www.epsten.com, which now includes a keyword index, handy search box, educational articles and checklists, Davis-Stirling 2014 conversion tables (2013 to 2014, and 2014 to 2013), plus online access to the Davis-Stirling Act and Other Statutes contained in our Community Association Law Resource Book and more! You'll also find more information about our attorneys, as well as firm announcements, speaking engagements and appearances. So take a few moments to browse the site, and come back and visit often!

On July 21, Governor Brown signed Assembly Bill 2100 (Campos) into law. As urgency legislation, the law immediately became effective. When there is a Governor-declared state of emergency due to drought, or when there is a local government-declared state of emergency due to drought, a community association is prohibited from fining or assessing a member for reducing or eliminating watering of vegetation or lawns during the period of the declared drought.

It is with regret but with best wishes that we announce the recent retirement of Epsten Grinnell & Howell shareholder Tom Gatlin.

Tom's departure marks both the end of an era for our firm and the beginning of a new chapter in Tom's life. We are all indebted to Tom for his commitment to the professional, practical and personal practice of community association law. The efforts and the relationships he has built over the years, both inside and outside of the firm, have assured our success for the coming years. It is our personal hope that he will now enjoy the well-earned fruits of his labor with his friends and family.

Meet the Newest Additions to Epsten Grinnell & Howell...and a Fond Farewell

They may be new to Epsten Grinnell & Howell, but they definitely aren't new to the practice of law. This year, we've already welcomed two experienced attorneys into the EG&H family, Justin M. Stoger and David A. Kline

Justin has more than 10 years' experience as a civil litigator and focuses his practice on representing project owners in construction litigation and representing community associations in CC&R enforcement, in defense of claims against community associations and their boards, and various other aspects of civil litigation.

David is an experienced community association lawyer, having spent seven years working in community association litigation, assessment collection and transactional matters. His experience also includes defending associations against discrimination claims filed with the Department of Fair Employment and Housing (DFEH).

We also take this opportunity to wish a fond farewell to our former colleague, Hudson Harris, who recently left EG&H to pursue a new opportunity out-of-state.  We wish Hudson and his family well.
