Study Buddies End the Semester with Christmas Parties
 | | Nebraska City Study Buddies Christmas Party held at Arbor Bank December 10, 2012 |
Study Buddies students and tutors ended the semester with Christmas parties this week.
In Nebraska City, families joined in for the evening for a pizza party, followed by games and gifts.
In Syracuse, the students surprised their tutors with ornaments they made as appreciation gifts and they decorated their own cookies.
Thanks so much to the United Way of Nebraska City and the Nelson Foundation for providing the funding to make the Study Buddies tutoring program possible, to Nebraska City Tourism & Commerce for promoting Study Buddies volunteer opportunities in the community, to Arbor Bank and Syracuse Middle School for providing meeting space, to Carla Urmacher and Amy Knake for serving as Study Buddies Site Coordinators and especially to our volunteer tutors:

| Be a Superhero: Be A Designated Driver Over the Holidays and Win a Prize
Local businesses and law enforcement are joining forces this holiday season to keep you safe by keeping drunk drivers off the road. The Nebraska City Police Department, Otoe County Sheriff's Office and the Nebraska State Patrol will be working over time to deter impaired driving. Local businesses serving alcohol will provide incentives for designated drivers, such as free soft drinks and appetizers. Through the designated driver rewards program, designated drivers in Nebraska City will be able to get gift certificates from law enforcement for serving as a designated driver and will also be eligible for a drawing for prizes between now and January 2nd. Thanks to Video Home Theater, Tag's One Stop and the Southeast District Health Department for providing the prizes for the drawing. Details appear in the poster below.
