World News This Week in Prayer
Loving and Holy God, we live in a world of hurt AND a world of delight. We face each day with joy and yet confronted by such challenges. We spin the globe and our finger lands on the Congo, ravaged year after year by devastating divisions; on the Middle East, whose tortured past has begotten a tortured present; on Haiti, ever rebuilding; on Tibet, ever yearning; on Newtown and Aurora in the U.S.A. still mourning; on Yemen where over 200 children sentenced to death are still fearing. We pray for the intervention by Prime Minister David Cameron of the UK to help resolve this atrocity. Patient God, how often we boast that we are your hands, we are your feet. Yet too often our hands are idle, we drag our feet. You taught us that there is a time to speak, and a time to keep quiet. Too often we mistake one time for the other. Urge us forward with voice and vote, with commitment and cooperation, and even with Jesus' formula of prayer and fasting. Turn our hearts away from despair or violence or apathy. Grant to us the paralytic's charge, to "rise up and walk". Thank you for entrusting this world to us. We humbly accept the responsibility, and fully embrace the opportunity. We dare to believe that your kingdom can come and your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. God, bless us every one.
