Greetings!,

I want to introduce you to a partnership. We are calling it Nativit-E Buddies.

Most of our communications are done via email and the internet these days.  And at the same time, we have some parishioners who, for various reasons, are not connected to the internet or to email. It is frustrating for those parishioners because they miss out on things, or don't hear news in a timely manner. Thus, the idea of Nativit-E Buddies is born (thanks to Trish Shurtz!).

I would like us to create a buddy system such that the Buddy who does use the internet covenants to relay information to their Non-Internet using Buddy. So for example, if the parish sent out an email announcing that a potluck dinner for next Tuesday is scheduled, the Internet buddy would call and inform their buddy.  For your information, we mail via US mail the weekly Tidings on Line to every parishioner not on the internet, so your duty as a buddy would be any announcement OTHER than the weekly newsletter. Examples might be emails about the Marin Bible Challenge, upcoming events in the parish and the like.

Facebook is an entirely different, but important, place of information as well. If you are on Facebook, find our Nativity page. We do not make "exclusive announcements" there, but it is a place to know what is going on in the life of the congregation. And some great pictures end up there, as well.

Make sense?  I would like to invite all of the parishioners who need a buddy to brainstorm who they might ask.  I would ask that you don't ask the Senior Warden, as she has enough details to take care of already. If you can't think of someone, I will work with you to find someone great. Who knows, this may be a way to create new friendships and relationships!

If you are an internet savvy person and would like to make a new buddy, please email me at [email protected] and I will hook you up with a great parishioner.

Thank you for helping us keep our people informed!

Love, Stacey

World News This Week in Prayer

Heavenly Father, be with us in this time of Lent, a time of sacrifice and fasting or of taking on new tasks. Remind us daily that while we may be but of dust, and to dust we shall return, our actions ,words and deeds will outlive us in kindness or in falsity.

As we think of sacrifice, draw our hearts and minds to:

--Mexico, where the Human Rights Watch has documented almost 250 disappearances during the term of former President Felipe Calderon. The report alleges: "In many cases, these detentions occur in victims' homes, in front of family members; in others, they take place at security checkpoints, at workplaces, or in public venues, such as bars."

Heavenly Father, we know that these sorts of disappearances happen across the globe, undocumented but not forgotten. Bring peace to the victims' families, and may justice reign over the accused.

As we think of taking on new tasks, draw our hearts and minds to:

--Cairo, Egypt, a city that is hosting two days of direct talks between the Syrian government and its opposition to discuss a framework for a possible solution to end the country's civil war.

--Saudi Arabia, where King Abdullah has appointed 30 women to the previously all-male Shura Council. While this is seen by many as a major step for women, they are still excluded from participating in much of public life. They are forbidden from making decisions about their health care and reproductive choices, from praying aloud, from learning to read, from voting and/or holding meaningful political offices, from traveling without permission, from socializing with whomever they desire, and from using the same facilities as their male counterparts.

Heavenly Father, draw our minds to reflect on those things we have done and those things we have left undone. Help us to remember that these actions and inactions may have effects far-reaching, for better or worse, in the seasons to come.

--Remind politicians in the United States that they represent people, not parties, as they debate a budget sequester. The deep financial cuts which will take place if this sequester is allowed to pass will force 800,000 civilian employees to take unpaid leave and fuel anxiety on national economy and security.

--Protect intellectual property, as China's government has long been suspected of a role in cyber-hacking into 141 companies across 20 industries, stealing hundreds of terabytes of information including blueprints, business plans, pricing documents, user credentials, emails, and contact lists.

In this season of sacrifice, help those of us going without a favorite treat and those of us who have taken on more healthful or life-giving habits to remember those in states of transition:

--those leaving home for the first time

--those without any structure or place to call "home"

--those lacking potable water or unpolluted breath

--those who are between jobs

--those who are recovering from an illness or from surgery

--those who are welcoming home a newborn

--those who are unable to conceive

--those returning from war

--those who are divorcing

--those who mourn.

Be with us, Heavenly Father, as we reconnect with your Son in his wilderness, confronting and embracing our own challenges and unknowns

Amen
