    "UPDATE," RUMORS & GARAGE SALES!""
RUMOR MILL:  FIRE AT MARCO MARRIOTT RESORT & SPA.
MARCO MARRIOTT RESORT & SPA.  There was an electrical motor which caused some smoke early Friday morning at the Resort.
STATEMENT FROM FIRE CHIEF MIKE MURPHY:  SUBJECT: MARRIOTT FIRE.
At 2 AM Marco Island Fire Rescue received a report of a fire on the fifth floor of the Marriott Hotel. First arriving units found the hotel being evacuated. Upon arrival on the fifth floor firefighters found smoke in the hallway. The smoke was coming from a linen closet and the source was found to be electrical in a motor of an AC unit within that area. Power to the motor was turned off. Firefighters set up ventilation to clear the halls of smoke and adjacent floors were checked for extension.  Marco units were assisted by Greater Naples Fire, Collier County EMS and Marco Police.
With assistance from the Marriott staff a few hundred guests were returned to their rooms after approximately one hour.
Marco units cleared the scene at approximately 3:30 AM.  KUDOS TO MI FIRE & POLICE DEPTS!!
POTENTIAL EMS CRISIS!!!
MARCOITES: POTENTIAL EMS CRISIS!!
This issue is very complex/complicated.  You would think that as a Incorporated City, Marco Island with "Home Rule" we would be able to determine our own EMS support needs and requirements. HOWEVER, this is not the case!  I will be sending out a "special"  EyeOnMarco the next few days with more information and how we can help the City Council.
I encourage everyone to listen to Dr. Gerald Swiacki comments to City Council regarding this critical issue.  Link.   Move the slider to the 27:45 minute position.  Resident, snow bird, frequent visitor-affects everyone!
