At 1:13pm, MIPD was dispatched to the area of Front St. & Marco Lake Dr. on a suspicious male with gun.  Witnesses reported the male had pointed a gun at passing motorists.  Responding MIPD units set up a perimeter in the area.  Shortly thereafter, a second "suspicious male" call was received in the area of N. Collier Blvd & E. Elkcam Circle.  At 155pm Officers located the male and took him into custody at 1100 N. Collier.  Subsequently, Officers located a toy rifle partially concealed in the backyard of a house in the 600 block of 6th Ave, one block away from the location in which the male was taken into custody.   

Out of an abundance of caution, at the onset of the incident, public and private schools in close proximity to the incident were placed in a precautionary code yellow status.  MIPD School Resource Officers deployed to the schools and Community Service and Code Enforcement personnel assisted by patrolling the perimeters of the schools and incident area.

Collier County Sheriff's Office provided significant assistance in the form of aviation, K-9, patrol, and other personnel.

Gamariel Pacaios Gonzales, 33 years of age - of Marco Island, was arrested and charged with 2 counts of Aggravated Assault & 1 count of Resisting with Violence.  Gonzales is being held in the Collier County Jail - his bond will be set by a Judge.
