A Message from our Executive Director

You have been a valuable part of our success in 2012.

Please consider a gift today to help make 2013 even better!

We've had a big year! The N&W 1776 Locomotive rolled home; the Wings Over Virginia Aviation Gallery  opened; and we've been able to make much-needed capital improvements to our building and

cosmetically restore almost half of our rolling stock in the Rail Yard.

We'd like to thank you, our devoted donors, members, visitors, and friends, for helping us to have a truly incredible year. Your contributions have enabled us to offer more educational programs, special events and improved exhibits.  Once again, we experienced double-digit growth in attendance, and we want to serve even more people in 2013!

Please consider making a donation today. Your financial support now will help us preserve and celebrate our rich transportation heritage in 2013 and beyond.

Making an online donation is quick, easy and secure.

Thank you so much for your support.
We wish you and your family a wonderful holiday season.

The Virginia Museum of Transportation is an independent, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization and donations are tax deductible as allowed by law. We rely on you as we receive no state funding and only 3 percent of our income is from local governments. You support helps ongoing operations, restoration efforts and infrastructure improvements.

O. Winston Link photographed the Norfolk and Western, the last major steam railroad in the United States, when it was converting its operations from steam to diesel in the 1950s.
Link's N&W project captured the industry at a moment of transition, before the triumph of the automobile and the airplane  that ended an era of passenger rail service. His work also revealed a small-town way of life that was about to experience seismic shifts and, in many cases, vanish completely. Including a collection of more than 180 of Link's most famous works and rare images that have never before been published, O. Winston Link: Life Along the Line offers a moving account
o
f the people and communities surrounding the last steam railroad. The book includes a CD of Link's recordings of the railroad. Hardcover, 239 pages, black and white and color photographs.
