We Love Our Dogs

September 2013

SEPTEMBER is here and summer is coming to an end. Fall is New England's most beautiful season, loaded with color and crisp, cool weather. This is the perfect time of year for for long walks with your dogs. But, remember there are some dangers to watch for.

When fall arrives, hunting season gets started, so be sure your dog is dressed in bright colors when walking in the woods.

And watch out for mushrooms. Many varieties love the warm days and cool nights that come with Autumn's arrival and several of them are poisonous. Make sure your dogs are kept safely away from any mushrooms growing in his/her play area.

Snakes will be starting to prepare for hibernation, so be aware of your surroundings. Keep your eyes open when hiking or cleaning up your yard.

Then, with safety in mind, get out there with your best friend and enjoy the wonders of a New England Autumn. Winter will return in the blink of an eye, so make the most of this glorious season!

  SOME OF OUR ADOPTABLES

Weighing in at  21-pounds, Morty is good on leash, isn't a barker, is housebroken in his current situation, and gets along best with female adults, dogs, and cats. He is about 7-8 years old, relaxed, and smart. He knows sit, come, and stay and is ready to learn more. This precious boy needs a female household and would make a loving friend to any lucky lady.

STEVIE

Stevie is 2-3 years old and is blind in his right eye from an early injury. Stevie is very social and sweet, good with dogs, cats, and especially the ladies! He would love  to share a home with one or more adult women!  At only 8 pounds, this loving little boy will make a great companion. Stevie would love to find his forever home and would happily share playtime with another small or medium dog.

Jenness is a gorgeous, energetic mixed breed weighing 35-pounds and is about two-years-old. She's great with other dogs (but not cats), loves to play, and is a very athletic and smart girl who would excel at agility, hiking, etc. A real beauty, Jenness will offer some lucky family a loving companion.

HAPPY ENDINGS!
Jaz, Charlie, and Dori

These three beauties were adopted by Sheila Vermacy of NH. Sheila took Jaz home in 2004, Charlie in 2010, and Dori arrived in 2012. Such a happy little group!
Trae and Petey

Trae is a familiar dog to our readers. The Edwin family adopted him in 2006 and they are super about sending regular updates. Trae is the brown dog and has only three legs, but you can see that doesn't slow him down at all.

Trae loves the beach, unlike his brother Petey (also adopted by the Edwins) who is less interested in the ocean. Petey is seen here asking dad when they might be going home.
Oreo

One of our earlier adoptees, Oreo was adopted by the Rager family of MA.  Oreo is on the right. Her friend's name is Itty Bitty.

Alice writes: "Oreo has been such a joy in our lives. Even though she was abused as a puppy and bears the scars, she was an excellent Pet Therapy Dog. She has always been a gentle soul. I could bring tears to your eyes with some of the stories  of our nursing home and hospital pet therapy visits."

The Ragers have recently adopted a second dog from CGL. Watch for our updates!
Sasha and Angel

Sasha and Angel were adopted at different times by the Rothweiler family of MA.

Karen writes:
"Sasha and Angel have become so close that it's hard to tell where one starts and the other ends (see photo)! They are both the most loving and affectionate dogs we've ever had in our family and we love them dearly.  Angel loves to burrow and sleeps under the blankets in our bed every night. Thank you for saving them and allowing us to make them part of our family.  They have a wonderful life filled with fun days and tons of love!  Thank you for all that you do!"

Lucy

Lucy was adopted by Doreen Arcus of MA in 2009.
Maxwell

Max was adopted by the Daley family in NH.
Baxter

Baxter was adopted by Sallie Hand of MA. Baxter enjoys traveling. Here he is on a trip to Martha's Vineyard.

And here he is again in Oak Bluffs.

Hey Baxter. Next time you take a trip, call us. We'd love to join you!
Pippa (was Mitzi)

Pippa is shown here on her way to transport to her new home in NH. Pippa was recently adopted by the Swain family.

Here she is settling into her new home!

Welcome to New England, Pippa.
Madison

The lovely Madison, all decked out in her pink harness and busy smelling the flowers, was adopted by Diane Trovato of NH.

Diane writes: "We LOVE her so much."
Aggie

Aggie was adopted from a Texas shelter by the Pariseau family of NH. Here she is at the top of Mt. Major in NH having a fun-filled summer!
