Canine Guardians for Life:
We Love Our Dogs
|
Keeping cool in the summer heat? It's tough on humans, but animals in fur coats have it even tougher. Help your dog keep cool this summer by following these few simple rules: Chrissy was adopted by the Brown family in MA. Here she is relaxing with her dad after a hot day of yard work.
 - Keep your dog indoors in air conditioning if possible; use fans indoors during hot days when air conditioning is unavailable.
- Leave plenty of water available at all times. If you use a pool for your dog, make sure s/he is always supervised in or around the pool.
- If your dog spends time outside, make sure his/her feet pads are protected from hot ground materials.
- NEVER leave your dog alone in a car in warm weather. Temperatures can quickly rise in a closed car (even with windows cracked), enough to kill an animal or a child.
- Long-haired dogs might benefit from a trim, but no need to shave your dog to the skin. Hair can insulate from the heat as well as from the cold and protect the skin from the hot sun.
- Exercise is great, but don't overdo it. Heat stroke is a real possibility in dogs as well as humans.
 - Make sure your dog is protected from summer pests. Heat can bring out mosquitoes, fleas and other parasites, so be sure your dog is safe with appropriate medications.
- If you go boating with your dog, make sure s/he has a life vest, just as you would with your children.
- And last tip: have lots of fun with your dog this summer and keep things safe!

Weighing in at 21-pounds, Morty is good on leash, isn't a barker, is housebroken in his current situation, and gets along with people, dogs, and cats. He is about 7-8 years old, relaxed, and smart. He knows sit, come, and stay and is ready to learn more. This precious boy would prefer a female household and would make a loving friend.
Morty's video STEVIE Stevie is 2-3 years old and is blind in his right eye from an early injury. Stevie is very social and sweet, good with dogs, cats, and especially people! He just wants to be part of your family! At only 8 pounds, this loving little boy is the perfect family companion. Stevie would love to find his forever home and would happily share playtime with another small or medium dog.
Jenness is a gorgeous, energetic mixed breed weighing 35-pounds and is about two-years-old. She's great with other dogs (but not cats), loves to play, and is a very athletic and smart girl who would excel at agility, hiking, etc. A real beauty, Jenness will offer some lucky family a loving companion.
Jenness is patiently waiting for a foster to help her get north where she can find her forever home. If you want to help Jenness, please complete a foster application.

Missy
Missy was adopted by Tammy Lenski of NH.
Tammy writes:" Missy continues to compete successfully in dog agility and last month earned her Novice Versatility Award from the North American Dog Agility Council (NADAC), given to dogs who successfully earn titles across all six types of agility courses. It's quite an accomplishment for a little dog who had a number of homes before ours and a great deal of anxiety when she joined our home. Thanks for all you do to bring dogs like Missy into loving homes in our region.
Editor's Note: Missy is one special little girl. We are all so proud of her and her loving family. What a super little athlete!

Arthur
When Rich Taussig was hiking with his adopted dog Casper, he ran into some folks and they began talking about their dogs. It turns out that Rich was talking to CGL's very first adopters. They adopted their dog Arthur from CGL over 11 years ago. Rich got a great picture of Arthur, shown here.
Editor's Note: We are thrilled to see a happy Arthur still hiking and going strong as ever. Rich didn't include a photo of his best friend Casper, but here is one we found in our archives.

She's eating fine and loves going on walks to the beach and conservation trails where we like to go. She plays tug of war with me with an old sock that has a small tennis ball tied up in it. We still can not believe our good fortune having her "rescue" us. We are forever indebted to you."
