Love and Wholeness

A mystic has told me that Love is not just a feeling; it is so much more then that. He said "Love is a Force that brings us to Wholeness."
There is love on the material level, and we see that as Eros, which is the romantic part of love. It is necessary to establish that bond that helps create family and community life.
Then there is Philo love, which is brotherly love. This love is there to insure the spiritual and material welfare of others.
Beyond the material planes of love, there is Agapé Love. This love goes beyond words, descriptions and feeling, so it is hard to describe. This Love is and can be confusing because it transcends the mind, and the mind cannot possibly understand that which transcends it.
The most common way to explain Agapé Love is to say: It is Selfless Love. We lose our small "self" (the I or me) for the Higher Self. This is the Love that the Sages, Prophets, Avatars and God spoke of when they said, Love One Another; to Love one another without any expectations of receiving anything in return...no acknowledgments...nothing. We are so committed to the welfare of the other we are willing to give it our all...even our life if necessary, because we see and honor the Higher Self in them.
Agapé Love is a mystical love in a sense.
Bhakti Yoga is the yoga of Love and Devotion to God. This is Love.
Jesus of Nazareth taught Bhakti Yoga. When he said to Love One Another, it was meant is the highest sense possible. It was Agapé Love.
Love is so misunderstood. Many folks believe that where there is Love there can be no pain. That is not true. Those who have experienced Love know that it can be painful.
Love is not all Peace, Happiness and tie-dyed tee-shirts. A friend has told me many times that Love is sacrifice. What is sacrifice? It is to make sacred. Love is commitment, even when the spark that started it all has faded, it does not mean that Love is over; it's just another stage of the journey.
Engaging in human relationships is a natural part of our spiritual journey; the journey of Love through the many stages, until there is only One, and that One is God.
God is Love, Love is God.
Happy Valentine's Day to all. May you see the God is in all you see...see the Love...feel the Love.
You are loved by Love Itself.
Namaste,
Michael
