A Call to Prayer & Action

Conference Minister Shari Prestemon reflects on the tragic events of Umpqua Community College last week and calls the Minnesota Conference to add their action to their prayers.

"Our thoughts and prayers are not enough," said President Obama.  "It's not enough."

President Obama shared these remarks last Thursday, responding to the mass shooting at Umpqua Community College (UCC) in Roseburg, Oregon where 9 were shot dead by a student who then killed himself.  That speech marked the 15th time during Barack Obama's presidency when a mass shooting in the United States would necessitate his response.  When he said thoughts and prayers were not enough, his frustration was obvious.  He wanted more than just compassion; he wanted change.

How Many are Going to the National Youth Event?
We need a good, solid estimate of how many of our youth and adults from the  Minnesota Conference are going to the National Youth Event (NYE) next Summer, July 26 - July 30.  We are planning travel now and we want to reserve a seat for YOU!  This NYE includes all youth 13-18 years old and their adult leaders. We are now estimating that the cost per person for the NYE will hover around $1,000 with event costs, meals, and travel.  Please send us your responses, even if they are -0- as soon as possible as we will be able to accommodate 80 people for this event and we have already received 60 reservations.

What we need you to email to Zac

  • Your Town Name
  • Number of Adults
  • Number of Youth

You will be getting more information as it comes in from the National UCC offices.  In the meantime, you can check out the info currently available about the NYE.

The Minnesota Conference UCC celebrates the gifts and service of all our authorized ministers serving in congregational, chaplaincy, and other specialized settings.
