How a Minister Spends Her Time

Nearly every minister has heard the joke that a church pastor only works an hour a week (and has then tried to suppress an eye roll). A full-time pastor in a local congregation typically works 40-50 hours a week. What fills that time, do you imagine?

In East Timor God is Still...
From Rev.Tom Liddle
Listening - and acting.

When I was serving with the Protestant Church in East Timor, one of the many things I learned is that God truly is living and active. That may sound like a strange insight; after all, in the UCC we're always talking about how "God is Still Speaking." But living with our partners in East Timor, I learned what I think may be an even more important insight for U.S. churches: "God is Still Listening." That is, God really is alive and active. God is one who hears prayer, has a stake in the world, and does indeed act - regardless of whether one has the money and social capital to be an agent of change.

Seeking Stories from You
The Minnesota Conference Office is seeking your stories.  How has the Conference impacted your church life?  Have we helped with searching for and finding a new pastor?  Have we been there to help your church through a transitional time?  Or perhaps provided guidance and training to your clergy and lay leaders?  Perhaps we've assisted in finding the resources you've needed to sustain your congregation?  If you answered yes to any of these questions or have something else to share, we would love to hear your story.  Please tell us in your words how we've made a difference.  Stories can be submitted to Lese Wright.  Photos and quotes are also welcome.  We will use as many stories as we can in publications and marketing.
Conference Disaster Preparedness
A Disaster Preparedness program for churches and members across the Conference was introduced at Annual Meeting.  The next step is for each church in the Conference to develop a preparedness plan.  The goal is threefold:
  1. For churches: reduce potential losses and develop partnerships with local emergency service and response organizations
  2. For members: increase safety and reduce losses by having needed documents and items identified and readily available.
  3. For the Conference: identify a response team of Minnesota Conference members who are available to go where needed to assist with recovery - across the state or country.
Please watch the video and check out the materials needed to get started on the Disaster Preparedness page on the Conference website.
