Selma 1965 - Still More Bridges Left To Cross 
Still More Bridges Left to Cross   
Two weekends ago, up to 80,000 people gathered at Selma, Alabama to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the crossing of the bridge there and those who had first tried to cross it on what became known as "Bloody Sunday", March 7, 1965.

The MN Conference and United Theological Seminary (UTS) welcome all authorized ministers, Members in Discernment, and interested mentors and advisors to attend all or part of this two-day event:

May 6: "Searching for Change and Changing the Search: New Tools & Terrain" 1:30-4:30pm at UTS

 

May 7: "Conversations on Ministry Opportunities in the UCC" 9am - 12pm at UTS 

 

Explore networking and self-presentation together with colleagues. Join the Rev. Malcolm Himschoot, UCC Minister for Ministerial Transitions, for a hands-on demonstration and workshop on the new Snapshot and Profile tools. Bring questions and expect interaction.

If it has been 3 years or more (2012 or earlier), since you have taken Power and Boundary Training - required for all ministers (unless exempt) - you can bring that training up to date. The next Power and Boundary training is:

Joys and Concerns
  • Terese Tomanek will be ordained Saturday March 21 at 1pm at Peace UCC  (1111 N. 11th Ave. E. in Duluth). A reception will follow. Clergy are invited to robe and wear red stoles. Terese serves as a chaplain at Essentia Health and at Woodland Hills Juvenile Residential Treatment Center.
     
  • Tom Liddle will be ordained Saturday March 28 at 11am at Peace UCC  (1111 N. 11th Ave. E. in Duluth). A reception will follow the service of ordination. Clergy are invited to robe and wear red stoles. Please RSVP to office@peaceucc.org if you plan to attend. Tom has been called to serve First Congregational UCC in Cannon Falls.
     
  • Lee Ila Olsen, wife of retired minister Rev. Chester Olsen, died March 2. Services were held March 14 at First Congregational UCC in Princeton. In addition to her husband, Lee Ila is survived by three daughters and their families. Notes of condolence can be sent to Rev. Chester Olsen at 104 8th Ave. S. #218, Princeton, MN 55371.

  • Vanuatu Emergency Relief
    The small island nation of Vanuatu in the South Pacific was hit by one of the strongest storms in recent history on March 14. Already one of the poorest nations in the region, Vanuatu suffered devastating damage and loss of life as Cyclone Pam, a Category 5 storm, made landfall.
    The UCC has a long history of responding to disasters and providing aid. Please consider a donation to the International Relief Fund. 
  • Widen the Welcome Conference
    The UCC Disabilities Ministries and the UCC Mental Health Network is hosting the 5th national Widen the Welcome Conference, Sept. 24-26 in Hartford, CT. Registration will be available in April. More info here.

    • 2015 Guy Stanton Ford Lecture Series: Bryan Steveneson will speak on the title "American Injustice: Mercy, Humanity, and Making a Difference" on Tuesday, April 7 at 2pm at the Carlson Family Stage at Northrop Auditorium. Stevenson is an attorney, human rights activist, and leader in the movement against mass incarceration in the US. The Lecture is free and open to the public.
