Mission Bite: Fall Youth & Faith
Formation Events
from Wade Zick, Associate Conference Minister
of Faith Formation for Children and Youth

In many of our congregations this Sunday and the next will be "Fall Kickoff," "Rally Day," "Welcome Home Sunday," "Christian Education Sunday" or some other catchy way to let folks know if they were away this summer - it's now time to return or pay attention. In the area of Faith Formation and Youth Ministry for the conference we are shifting focus from summer camp season to Fall Youth Events, Fourth Thursdays, and special opportunities such as the Parables event sponsored by the UCC national setting and Wayzata Community Church.
Press Release: Divestment
from Fossil Fuels

At our June 2013 Annual Meeting, delegates approved a resolution urging divestment from fossil fuels. The resolution, out of respect for the integrity of God's Creation, called for the Conference to divest from fossil fuel companies over a 5 year period and to immediately abstain from making any new investments in fossil fuels. Since that time, the Board of Directors and Finance Committee have been seeking ways to best fulfill this commitment.

We are delighted to share that last month we signaled to United Church Funds, where the majority of our investments are held, that the Minnesota Conference UCC would be a founding investor in their newly announced Beyond Fossil Fuels Fund. This move will allow us to begin 'making good' on our prophetic commitment to fossil fuel divestment and to advance that same commitment within the wider United Church of Christ. We wanted you to hear the news! Check out this link to learn more about this new fund and our Conference's participation... and to hear one of our own congregations, Mayflower UCC (Minneapolis) reflect on the possibility.
