What is a Dad?

Happy Father's Day

A dad is someone who wants to catch you before you fall but instead picks you up, brushes you off, and lets you try again.

A dad is someone who wants to keep you from making mistakes but instead lets you find your own way, even though his heart breaks in silence when you get hurt.

A dad is someone who holds you when you cry, scolds you when you break the rules, shines with pride when you succeed, and has faith in you even when you fail.

The Next Generation of Fathers Needs Your Help

Everyday in the classrooms of FFCDC, we see the importance of a father in a child's life, especially with boys being raised by single mothers and who have behavior problems.

Studies suggest that fathers who are involved, nurturing, and playful with their infants have children with higher IQs, as well as better linguistic and cognitive capacities. Toddlers with involved fathers go on to start school with higher levels of academic readiness. These children are more patient and can handle the stresses and frustrations associated with schooling more readily than children with less involved fathers.

The influence of a father's involvement extends into adolescence and young adulthood. Numerous studies find  that an active and nurturing style of fathering is associated with better verbal skills, intellectual functioning, and academic achievement among adolescents.

But there is hope!  You can make a difference for the future of these children and the community by supporting FFCDC's Family Net Programs which offer parenting workshops, family and individual counseling, job search assistance and much more. Together we will give our families a chance for a positive future.  Donate Today!

Honor Dad with a Gift That Lasts a Lifetime
Celebrate your Dad (or anyone) this Father's Day with a gift that will last long after the neckties or golf clubs are distant memories. The education of a young child attending Florence Fuller Child Development Centers is a gift you can give this Father's Day as a lasting way to share with the community a special man that made a difference in your life.

Purchase a six inch square tile (as seen below) for $250 and we will include a personalized plaque, forever recognizing the person's name along with an "in honor/memory of"  short message from you. You can even select an available, one of a kind tile created by a child or let us choose one for you. Once purchased, we will send your special person an email detailing your gift and include a photo of the tile. For Father's Day delivery, orders can be processed up to 4:00 pm, Friday, June 14, 2013.
