Register with an email address in order to submit your own elevator pitch for a professional critique! The lead presenter is Tyra Ford, Assistant Professor, Fox School of Business, Temple University.

Join us for a networking happy hour before each event beginning at 6:00 p.m. Light refreshments provided by Two Roads Brewing Company (ID required).

Preregistration is required. Tickets may be purchased individually for $5 per event or for $25 for the entire series!

Members of the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Accountants are passionate about spreading financial literacy to the public and small business owners. In this session, George Sarianos, CPA, and Chad Shank, Vice President and Relationship Manager of M&T Bank, will present ways to secure financing for your business. They will discuss the key sources of financing, the importance of preparation when trying to acquire financing, and how to assemble the right data to get approval.

Census Data and Tools for Grant Writers and Business Owners

free census data and online tools to get demographic and economic data for business plans and grant writing. Whether you want statistics about your target market or are writing an assessment about a community you can use census data to support your projects.
 
Speaker Noemi Mendez is a Data Dissemination Specialist at the United States Census Bureau's Philadelphia Regional Office. Before joining the Philadelphia Regional Office in 2005, Ms. Mendez worked as a geographer at Census Headquarters in Suitland, Maryland in the Geographic Standards and Criteria Branch (GSCB).

Please join us for this two-part series. Learn to use free library resources to research your business plan professionally!

Wednesday, October 19 at 6:00 PM
Part I: Get an introduction to business plans, NAICS codes, and start researching the competition.
 
Wednesday, October 20 at 6:00 PM
Part II: Target your audience by learning to find and use demographic information. Gain executive perspective by learning to research your industry, then work on developing your financial plan.

Intermediate computer skills are required. There will be time at the end of each session to familiarize yourself with the print and online resources. To actively participate we highly suggest bringing your fully-charged laptop (charging space is limited).

This series is presented in memory of Charles Smith. Charles passed away on July 16. He was the beloved former department head of the Business, Science & Industry Department for many years. Before his retirement in February, he was the Administrative Librarian and project manager in the Business Resource & Innovation Center.

What does it take to start and sustain a business?
 
The Corzo Center for the Creative Economy at the University of the Arts, with the Free Library of Philadelphia's Business Resource & Innovation Center presents an interactive, two-week course designed for artists, makers, performers, and videographers.

Participants must plan to attend all classes.
 
The program introduces the principles of entrepreneurship -- how to plan, budget, market, identify and attract customers, and manage finances.
 
Free consulting and opportunities for competitively awarded grants are available upon completion of the program. More details are available here.
