Please join us for this three-part series. Learn to use the library resources to research your business plan professionally.

 

This class is designed as a series. You are encouraged to attend all three sessions.

Part I: Get an introduction to business plans and start researching the competition.

 

Tuesday, September 16th at 6:30 PM

Part II: Target your audience by learning to find and use demographic information.

 

Tuesday, September 23rd at 6:30 PM

Part III: Gain executive perspective by learning to research your industry; then work on developing your financial plan.

 

A Free Library card and basic computer skills are a prerequisite. 

 

Space is limited to 12 people per class. Tickets are available 30 minutes before class begins in the lobby of the library.You must show your Free Library card in order to receive a ticket.

"How to Start a Business in Pennsylvania" by Jere L. Calmes & Entrepreneur Media, Inc.

This how-to book includes information on planning and starting a business in Pennsylvania by providing state and federal start-up information and legalities.

 

PA Biz Online

This website gives entrepreneurs easy access to business information. One can find out how to start a business, learn how Pennsylvania can help businesses grow, find the right forms and electronically register a business. Links to other important state resources are accessible through this site.

 

PA.Gov - Business Services

This website is one-stop page for business resources and services available through the state. Topics include "Raising Capital," "Small Business Opportunities, "Online Business Registration," and more. Each topic is linked to the relevant department or website.

 

Pennsylvania Department of Revenue - Businesses 

The Department of Revenue's website Web site features information to make filing and paying state taxes as easy as possible for individuals and businesses. There are links to forms and information on business tax e-Services, corporation taxes, rebates, incentives, and more. 

 

Pennsylvania Department of Community & Economic Development - Business 

One of the functions of the DCEC is to helps businesses succeed and thrive in Pennsylvania by connecting them with the answers and resources they need. There are resources, advice, opportunities, and information for start-ups and expanding businesses. The site has many links to partner organizations and incentives including funding resources. 

 

Pennsylvania Small Business Development Center (SBDC)

With offices in Philadelphia and across the state, this organization provides one-on-one consulting, training, and information resources to empower new and existing small businesses. Types of assistance include planning, marketing, technology, and more. Philadelphia boasts three local offices at Penn (Wharton), Temple, and Widener Universities. 


 
City of Philadelphia Licenses and Inspections (L&I) - Business  

The City of Philadelphia has a number of licensing requirements for starting a business. This site offers information and links to information on starting a new business in Philadelphia including crucial license and tax material.

City of Philadelphia - Business Services 

This valuable site is also known as the Philadelphia Business Assistant. Here one can find information on starting, owning, and operating a general or industry specific business. There are also links and information on common documents and forms, announcements, events, zoning, licensing, financing and incentives, regulations, permits, certifications, and more.  

 

U.S. Small Business Association (SBA)

The SBA helps Americans start, build and grow businesses. Through an extensive network of field offices and partnerships with public and private organizations, SBA delivers its services to people locally and across the country.Services include loans, loan guarantees, contracts, counseling sessions and other forms of assistance for small businesses.
