Friends of the Narragansett Council, BSA,
As previously communicated, throughout the last several months we have been in dialog with the Annawon Council, our neighbors in Norton, MA, about their desire to consolidate with a nearby Council. We recently shared with you their Study Committee recommendation to their board to select our Narragansett Council for further discussions. In our desire to keep you informed, I am pleased to share with you the following continued progress.
Last night, the Annawon Council Executive Board voted to approve beginning discussions with our Narragansett Council towards consolidation. This was not a vote to consolidate, but rather an approval to begin the conversation that may lead to consolidation in the near future.
This is exciting news for everyone involved in Scouting within the Annawon and Narragansett Councils and the communities we serve. The consolidation would combine two strong Scouting organizations with the aim of reinvigorating the Boy Scouts of America as the premier youth leadership program in our area.
Both councils draw great pride in their traditions, each born from rich histories. Narragansett Council dates back to the formation of the Boy Scouts of America itself, beginning in 1910 as the Rhode Island Boy Scouts and officially organizing in 1930, from the merger of several Rhode Island councils. Annawon Council was formed in 1930 and incorporated in 1933 with 12 Scouting units and 300 Scouts at that time.
From this rich history we anticipate will spring a bright future. Thank you for your patience as we journey through this important period and seek to begin a new chapter for the Scouting program. It is sure to be a thrilling time for Scouts and volunteers as we open up those new possibilities together.
We will continue to keep you informed of our progress in the weeks and months to come, and feel free to contact me should you have any questions or comments along the way.
Best regards,
John H. Mosby
