Narragansett Council News

Friends, Parents, Leaders and Supporters of the Narragansett Council, BSA:

I have exciting news to share with you.  Since late last summer, the Annawon Council (headquartered in Norton, MA), has been involved in discussions with us in order to make a selection of a fellow Council to consolidate and merge with in the near future.  For the last several months, many Narragansett Council Board Members and Staff have been engaged in meetings, tours, and dialog with the Annawon Council study group volunteers.  The intent of this process has been to better understand the resources and strengths of both of our Councils, in order to help them determine the right choice for them.

A similar path has been taken by the Old Colony Council (headquartered in Canton, MA) in order to give the Annawon Council the terrific option of two very solidly run Councils for them to select from, as they consider what's best for their Scouts in the future.

I am pleased to share with you that last night the Executive Committee of the Annawon Council, acting on behalf of the results from their Study Group, approved a recommendation to go before their Annawon Council Board to move forward with consolidation talks with the Narragansett Council.  The meeting of their Board will take place on May 6, 2015, and will begin the process of further detailed discussion on what the future of our two Councils will look like, and will involve the due diligence necessary before both of our Boards make a final decision.

There will be a small merger committee appointed to act on behalf of our Narragansett Council during the discussions, that will report back to our Executive Committee and Board.  They will be acting on behalf of our Board and in the best interests of all youth involved - both for the Narragansett and Annawon Councils.

There will be many more updates to share with you throughout this process, and we understand that there are many questions you will have.  We are committed to being very hands-on and transparent throughout this dialog, and welcome your questions and feedback.

I look forward to the road ahead, and even more enhanced quality programs for our Scouting youth!

Best regards,
