Proven Track Record

|
August 7, 2012 as submitted by Stuart L. Rosenberger II, Lift Station Manager, Charlotte Mecklenburg Utility Dept., Field Operations Division
"Since February 2002, Charlotte Mecklenburg Utilities has utilized Surge Suppression [Incorporated] units at four of our largest sewage lift stations. To date, we have not sustained any damage to our equipment. We have had to replace four or five units over the course of 10 years due to some type of surge, but again no damage to our equipment. You have a very easy exchange process and turnaround time is pretty quick.
We will continue to consider other applications for surge suppression units should the need arise and will certainly call Surge Suppression Incorporated to assist with those needs."

Bite into a Wint-O-Green Lifesaver and see a green spark (best seen in low light conditions). Do you know why that happens?
Believe it or not, what you have seen is really a miniaturized version of lightning! Lightning is a stream of electricity that excites nitrogen molecules which are released as visible light. When you crush sugar crystals with your teeth, the pieces become positively and negatively charged. This makes the electricity jump through the air between the pieces of sugar, exciting nitrogen molecules and making them emit light.
Chemical energy is stored in all kinds of molecules. With sugar crystals and other substances, this energy can be converted to light energy by using pressure. When sugar crystals are squeezed, pressed or crushed, they give off electricity called piezo-electricity (piezo means pressure).
A lot of energy that gets released from plain old crushed sugar gets released as ultraviolet light, which the human eye can not see. But the wintergreen in Wint-O-Green Lifesavers is a special substance that absorbs this ultraviolet energy and transforms it into visible light. This process is called 'fluorescence'.
