UPCOMING SPECIAL EXHIBITION 
Transforming Spirit - The Cameron/Bredt Collection of Contemporary Northwest Coast Art
Whale and Pook-Ubs Transformation Mask Transforming Spiriton display from September 19, 2015 to February 15, 2016tells the story of Jamie Cameron and Christopher Bredt and their passionate commitment to art from Canada's Northwest Coast, showcasing work by twenty-seven of the region's most celebrated artists. 

Among the featured works, which have been gifted to the McMichael collection, are rattles, blankets, bentwood boxes, a totem pole, and works on paper. There are also many examples of an object important for its expressive qualities - the mask, a form for communicating the importance of nature, animals, and human beings, as well as imagined characters, which are at the core of many First Nations cultures. More information

Parapan Am Games' community spirit, the McMichael presents Colour of the River Running Through Us, a large-scale sculptural-based outdoor art installation conceived by multidisciplinary artist, Thom Sokoloski. More information.

Le sentier partag�/The Shared Path Family Day
Commemorating 400 years of Francophone Presence in Ontario 
Sunday, September 13, 11 am to 3 pm

Perched on the ridge of the Humber Valley, the McMichael overlooks the river that has played an essential role in Aboriginal history and the history of European settlers. The "shared path" was part of the waterway used by �tienne Br�l� while travelling along the Toronto Carrying Place Trail, and it continues today to welcome those who walk and cycle along its banks, from the McMichael to the shores of Lake Ontario.

ArtVenture Camp Curates
Wednesday, September 30, 11 am to 3 pm
Inspired by the McMichael's incredible art collection and stunning natural landscape, ArtVenture's summer campers will present their artistic creations to family, friends, and visitors. View the exhibition and participate in an art workshop. At 1:30 pm, there will be a special performance by award-winning magician Mike D'Urzo, and at 2 pm he will reveal some tricks of the trade in an interactive magic workshop. Included with gallery admission. More information.
ARTVENTURE CHILDREN & YOUTH PROGRAMS

In these weekly two-hour art classes, children have the opportunity to view the McMichael exhibitions in the 
galleries and head outdoors to explore and work in the natural environment. Children will develop creative skills while working with a wide range of 2- and 3-dimensional materials and methods in an atmosphere that is fun, rewarding and engaging. 

Saturday Art Classes and Studios
September 19 to November 14 (no class October 10) 
10 am to 12 pm

Art Explorers, Ages 5 - 12
Children focus on exploration of the medium and development of basic art-making skills.
Art Apprentices, Ages 8 - 12
Offered to children with previous art-making experience, this program emphasizes composition, design, and the use of professional artist materials.
Teen Studio, Ages 13 - 15
New this year, this teen-friendly studio is designed to engage participants in projects exploring a variety of mediums.

Wednesday Art Studios
September 23 to November 11, 6 to 8 pm
New this year, this program is designed for high school students interested in continuing or further developing their artistic personality. The course focuses on drawing, introduction to painting techniques, and art fundamentals.

ADULT PROGRAMS
Painting Studio, Beginner Class with Lorne McDermott
September 15 to October 20 (six classes)
Tuesdays, 6 to 9 pm

This class is designed as an introduction to acrylic and water-based oils. While learning drawing and painting techniques, participants are encouraged to develop a personal voice in painting. Artist/Instructor Lorne McDermott will guide participants through fundamental skill-building exercises, while inspiring them to play with materials and tools. More information.
En Plein Air Painting, Introductory Class with Lorne McDermott
Saturday, September 19 to Sunday, September 20 (two classes)
10 am to 4:30 pm

Participants will learn the essential features of painting outdoors, while exploring the unique opportunities en plein air allows. Through demonstrations and individual attention, participants will paint with confidence while developing their technical abilities. Landscape painting principles such as colour, form, texture, and composition will be addressed. More information.
