Fair Trade
Several months ago, we were horrified to learn of the factory collapse, killing 1,127 garment workers in Bangladesh. We wonder how many others toil throughout the world in unsafe working conditions.
Recently, Bob and Lenora Huber sent me a copy of a recent book written by their daughter (Thrive: Live Like You Matter.) It is a book about relationships, and I especially enjoyed her emphasis on righteousness. I want to share this paragraph with you (pg.115):
Purchase Wisely. If you use your money in a way that brings justice, you are making a huge statement. Look for fair-trade labels. Look for clothing that is made in slave-free environments. Fair-trade and sweat-free mean those products have been made without slave labor. It means people are getting paid reasonable local prices for their work.
If 'fair trade' is a new concept to you, I invite you to Google it to learn more. We share a planet with 7 billion people; would that everyone treated others fairly and did not exploit them. Until that happens, we need to do our part to support efforts for fairness and justice. That's my opinion - what's yours?
In faith,

Pastor Tim
