Half Full or Half Empty?
Is the glass half-empty or is it half full? This past Sunday, I compared the malaise and despair in contemporary America to the despair and hopelessness that many felt during the time of John the Baptist and Jesus. Then the world was a mess; many argue that it is a mess today. Half empty - no doubt about it!
And yet ... look again.
The Spectator magazine in Britain has printed an article suggesting that that '2012 was the greatest year in the history of human kind.' I could almost hear you gulp as you read that last sentence. But hear them out:
- There is less hunger, less disease, and more prosperity in the world than at any time in human history.
- While the West may be in the economic doldrums, most developing countries are charging ahead and people are being lifted out of poverty at the fastest rate ever recorded. Millions and millions of people in China and India have recently joined the middle class.
- The death toll inflicted by war and natural disasters is "also mercifully low."
- People are living longer, more safely, and have a better quality of life than ever.
And so the Spectator magazine asserts... this is the Golden Age.
Perspective is everything!
In faith,

Pastor Tim
