A Note From Pastor Tim

Food Hardship

Bruce Springsteen's album, "The Wrecking Ball"  takes aim at the pain of hunger in America.  In Shackled and Drawn he sings of working Americans feeling stuck in their jobs, unable to improve themselves, experiencing the widening gap between the American dream and American reality.  Another song, We Take Care of Our Own, is actually an indictment that we do NOT take care of the person next door.  American popular music has often been edgy, prophetic, and disturbing ... and so it is with Wrecking Ball.

Then today, I read a forwarded e-mail that Cape Coral/Fort Myers ranked third in the nation in Food Hardship 2008-2012.  This report showed that 30.6% of Cape Coral/Fort Myers households with children reporting at times that they did not have enough money to buy needed food (Florida was fourth nationally).  Also alarming is that another l7.5% of state households without children said that  they faced the same struggle (a full analysis is available at www.frac.org).

May our hearts be large enough to continue to respond generously to the needs around us.

In faith,

Pastor Tim

Faith Pondering

Peter was grieved because he said to him a third time, 'Do you love me?'  And he said to him, Lord you know everything; you know that I love you."   Jesus said to him, "Feed my sheep."
