People Need People
Rear Admiral Richard Byrd spent five winter months in 1934 living alone in a small shelter on the Ross Ice Barrier near the South Pole enduring what he said was "the coldest cold on the face of the earth." The terrain was bleak - a barren sheet of ice, thousands of feet thick punctuated by snow-covered mountains. In mid-April, with the temperature often eighty degrees below zero, the sun disappeared from the horizon not to appear again for weeks. He described it as "one layer of darkness piled on top of the other."
And the hardest part of Byrd's ordeal? The horror of being alone.
God made us for one another. Loneliness is one of the deepest pains that people ever experience. As the fall approaches, you may ask yourself "how can I get involved?" Please think about being a 'friendly visitor' (visiting a shut-in), a Stephen Minister, or even a deacon. People need people.
In faith,

Pastor Tim
