Seven Deadly Sins
Sunday, I begin a sermon series on the seven deadly sins: pride, envy, anger, sloth, greed, gluttony and lust. For hundreds of years, these 'sins' were warnings lest we stumble and fall in our Christian walk. It is one thing to profess that 'Christ is Risen' - quite another to live a disciplined life.
In researching the 'seven deadly sins', I found other lists that are of interest. Mohandas Gandhi created this list:
- wealth without pleasure
- pleasure without conscience
- science without humanity
- knowledge without character
- politics without principle
- commerce without morality
- worship without sacrifice
And on March 9, 2008, the Vatican newsletter published a list of seven modern social sins:
- destroying the environment
- genetic manipulation
- obscene wealth
- creating poverty
- drug trafficking
- immoral scientific experimentation
- violation of the fundamental rights of human nature
