What Is Man That Thou Are Mindful of Him? Psalm 8.4
Some years ago, Holmes Rolston wrote an article about a finely tuned universe. I came across the article recently and thought you might appreciate reading an excerpt from it. Holmes writes:
"In our 150 pounds of protoplasm, in our three pounds of brain, there may be more operational organization than there is in the whole of the Andromeda Galaxy. The number of associations possible among our 10 billion neurons, and hence the number of thoughts humans can think, may exceed the number of atoms in the universe."
So, back to the question asked so long ago by the Psalmist.... What is man that Thou are mindful of him? The gift of life inspires awe, and awe leads to profound gratitude.
In faith,

Pastor Tim

An Uplifting Prayer
Give us, Lord, a bit o' sun
A bit o' work and a bit o' fun;
Give us in all the struggle and sputter Our daily bread and a bit o' butter.
Give us health, our keep to make, And a bit to spare for others' sake.
Give us, too, a bit of song And a tale and a book to help us along.
Give us, Lord, a chance to be Our goodly best, brave, wise and free,
Our goodly best for ourselves and others, Till all men learn to live as brothers.
Amen (An old Irish prayer)

On May 5th, Pastor Tim begins a 7 week series on the "Seven Deadly Sins." A long tradition in the church was to follow the joy of Easter with a more careful examination of our own lives. While these seven are not known as the "big sins" (such as murder, adultery, etc.), they are more quiet, internal, and seem to settle close to us- all the more reason we need to explore pride, envy, anger, sloth, greed, gluttony, and lust.
