A NOTE FROM PASTOR TIM

One More New Book

Ecclesiastes (12.12) warns us that "of making many books there is not an end; and much study is a wariness of the flesh".  Alas, I feel that I will never have time to read the books that I have already purchased, let alone read all the new books that I really do want to read.

Nonetheless, here is one new book that caught my eye (no, I haven't read it yet).  It is Jim Wallis "On God's Side: What Religion Forgets and Politics Hasn't Learned About Serving the Common Good".  What the book reviewer explained, and what I so much liked, is that Wallis reminds us that 'the deepest problems this world faces' and 'what we need is a commitment to an ancient idea whose time has urgently come: the common good.'

How do we work together, even when we do not agree? How can we take care of not just ourselves or our family but take care of  the communities in which we live?

To be honest, I probably won't read Wallis' book, but I am grateful that one more voice is weighing in on the need for us to come together and subordinate our own agendas to the common good.  Then again, isn't that something  that long ago Jesus invited us to do?

In faith,
