A NOTE FROM PASTOR TIM

The Preppers Are Here!

According to the News Press (10/1/12), the preppers are here! Who are the preppers? They are people preparing for the end of the world. Our local chapter is now 153 members strong and growing.   The leader of the group indicates that he comes to this from 'a Biblical perspective', while others are concerned about the Mayan prophecy centering on December 21. Their advice - stockpile food and water, take your money out of banks, and hoard gold.

Historically, when life is stressful, people increasingly believe that they are living in the end-times. Today is no different. The world changes so fast that we have trouble keeping up with it. What was new yesterday is common today - the future sprints towards us with dazzling speed. Overwhelmed, stress leads to anxiety which gives way to fear.

I think that anyone who is fearful about the end of the world ought to volunteer for a day with hospice, spend the next day working with our youth ministry, volunteer the next day at the soup kitchen in Immokalee and.... well, if nothing else, it will take your mind off yourself and focusing on this stuff.

For 2,000 years, people have "insisted" that the end is near. They have always been wrong, as I am sure that they are wrong this time. And if I am wrong? Would it do any good to dwell on it? We live by faith, not fear. God is in control, not man.

Love God and love others..... we do not have the luxury of withdrawing from the human race and preparing for the end. That's what I think - what do you think?
