A diverse dance performance drawn from 19 companies featured in the SAN PEDRO ♥ TRI ART Festival. Peoples Place San Pedro brings audience participation with Jan Kain and members of one of San Pedro's most popular dance schools. New this year is Maha and Company. Maha Afra performs from multiple cultures including Middle Eastern, Latino, and Afro. Louise Reichlin/ LA Choreographers & Dancers, returns for their 6th year at the Festival featuring joyous modern and contemporary dance. On Saturday they will perform Wedding, the final section added to her Urban & Tribal Dances in 1992. It's the first performance this century of the critically acclaimed work.
We have added a series of FREE previews to give San Pedro (and surrounding communities) more access to the performing arts before the Festival on Sept 21 and 22.

The TriArt Festival is on Sept 21 and 22. Dance companies are below. See website for music, arts, and crafts. We had a record number of companies apply to the festival this year. Companies selected are mostly professional, with several coming to us from New York this year. But we always include a small number of promising pre-professional and regional groups. We feel it is important for us to see that next wave coming in, and for them to connect with our professionals. We are thrilled to announce the following times & companies:

This will be its 7th year, the 3rd at this beautiful outside location on September 21 and 22. We are delighted to announce that we have been awarded our first Department of Cultural Affairs, City of LA, Festival Grant as well as a California Arts Council CPV (Creating Places of Value) grant.

This year, as last, our partners include Alvas/ Matt Lincir, Spirit Cruises and Ports O'Call Restaurant/ Jayme Wilson, LA County District 4/Don Knabe Supervisor, and LA City District 15/ Joe Buscaino, Councilman. A major new sponsor is Rickenbacker Guitars. New this year will be previews. We already had one at People's Place San Pedro during the city's 125th Birthday Fest. More previews are listed above. Like the actual festival on Sept 21 and 22, everything is free to the public. Besides the new grants for the dance portions, we have been awarded an LA County Music in Public Places grant for Louie Cruz Beltran Latin Jazz Group. More look at Music in our next issue. New Funding for Educational Residencies for our company
| Schools in the Valley - in LA Council Districts 2, 3, 6, 7, and 12 - We have received a grant from the Department of Cultural Affairs for 2 free residencies. Please contact us right away for details!!!

We Begin a new school year with ICEF District & New Afterschool programs with LA's Best
|
This month we began curriculum dance classes five days a week at the Lou Dantzler MS under the ICEF District banner. Our teachers are excited to be in a school with a dance room with mirrors and barres and wonderfully eager students. Teaching there currently are Tonya Vivian, Steven Nielsen, Kistina Pressler, Dustin Ripkens, and Laurie Huff. Meanwhile, Angela Todaro and Elizabeth Ann Poinsette prepare for two new schools with LA's Best including Rosa Parks El and Valley View, both Elementary Schools in the LAUSD.
