Issues with Mold?

The heavy summer rains in Western North Carolina have created a host of problems in our area, including a rise in instances of mold in homes.

Mold can cause a number of health problems, including allergic reactions, asthma episodes, irritations of the eye, nose and throat, sinus congestion, and other respiratory problems. Because of public health concerns associated with mold, 2-1-1 is working with local health and human service departments to share resources.

The Environmental Protection Agency and the North Carolina Cooperative Extension have info about identifying mold and removing it from homes.  North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services has helpful information about mold and your health.

If you are a tenant, and you have water coming into your home or are dealing with after affects such as mold, there might be resources that can help you.  2-1-1 can provide referrals for housing inspections, legal assistance, and more.

For additional information, check with your health department or call 2-1-1.

A 2-1-1 Caller's Story
Individual, Family and Community Support.jpg
We are always grateful to callers who share their positive experiences with us. Our call center manager recently spoke to a woman with a great story.

The woman had called 2-1-1 after beginning to lose her vision and had gotten a referral to a local agency. The referral agency not only helped her with making her home safer for her as she transitioned to blindness, but they also gave her a way to listen to books (she loved to read), and they answered questions that came up for her such as would she lose her ability to dream in color (most people who can no longer see in color can still dream in color).

2-1-1 serves people by making caring connections to needed information and resources. We also follow-up to see if the resources provided worked out. It is wonderful for us to hear when, like for this caller, our services connect them to the necessary supports.
