Eaton: "Nothing is solved by this violence"
Bishop Eaton
Presiding Bishop Eaton
ELCA Presiding Bishop Elizabeth A. Eaton Wednesday released a statement in response to the shootings in Baton Rouge, La., and Dallas that killed eight police officers.

"Acts of violence, at home and abroad, are all too frequent. Each is evidence of a broken world," Bishop Eaton said. "Not all citizens have the same experience with law enforcement. We are working on that as a nation and a church. But the targeting and assassination of police officers is a threat to all of us. Nothing is solved by this violence."

An Outpouring of Generosity
Outpouring logo
The 49-year tradition of generosity through our Christmas Ingathering is transforming into the SEPA Outpouring. Due to changes at Lutheran Children and Family Service and decreased funding for transport and publicity, we will no longer collect donations en masse on the first Sunday of December. Instead, we will be offering opportunities to give throughout the year. Watch MinistryLink for news of our web listing of local service organizations and their needs for donations. Questions? Lutherans Speak Up For Hunger, Education
State Capitol
The state budget deal reached recently offers a 4 percent increase in anti-hunger programs and a $200 million increase in basic education funding - both priorities for Lutheran Advocacy Ministry in Pennsylvania (LAMPa). Lutherans made their voices heard, said LAMPa director Tracey DePasquale. "I was heartened to read the letters you signed at synod assemblies and emails you sent to lawmakers. There was truly an outpouring of encouragement to remember the vulnerable in our communities and to act in hope with investment in our children's futures. We are grateful to Gov. Wolf and the lawmakers who listened."
