Reflections on Orlando Tragedy

Bishop Claire Burkat:
We pray for the courage to act when our faith summons us to be counted among the change agents and peace makers.
And we pray for the grace and confidence that nothing will separate us from the eternal love of God in Christ... Believing we are more than conquerors through the One who loves us. No exceptions!

Presiding Bishop Elizabeth Eaton:
(Monday) your churchwide staff came together to mourn and to pray. We prayed for those killed in Orlando and remembered the Charleston Nine killed only a year ago. We prayed for the family of the shooter, for our LGBTQ brothers and sisters and for our Muslim brothers and sisters who now face the threat of retaliation. And we prayed that the Prince of Peace will bring us to the day when we stop killing ourselves.

Bishop Robert G. Schaefer, Florida-Bahamas Synod:
There is an entire generation that needs to hear a clear and uncompromising word from the church: Every human being shares in the image of God and, therefore, shares the same dignity without regard to racial or ethnic distinction, family status, age, economic status, gender, sexual orientation, or differing abilities. Period. This senseless violence must end.
