Mission Idea: A Resurrection Garden

Because many people experiencing food insecurity have a difficult time accessing healthy foods, such as fresh produce, a group of gardeners at Lutheran Church of the Resurrection in Yardley are tending a "Resurrection Garden." Produce from this garden supplement the congregation's donations of tuna, pasta, peanut butter and other staples. So far, the garden has yielded 17 lbs of fresh strawberries for a Lower Bucks food pantry. To learn more about this effort, contact LCR at 215.493.2018 or office@lcr-yardley.org.
What is your congregation doing to help fight hunger in your community? Share your story by sending information and photos to Bob Fisher by email.

Bishop Eaton's Shout-out to Team ELCA
In her June column in The Lutheran, Presiding Bishop Elizabeth Eaton writes that "the concept of church as the body of Christ and that we are members of one another...is very countercultural." In individualistic American culture congregations "can, and often do, fall into the trap of believing that they are the church, the whole church, all by themselves." Eaton writes. Rather than asking "what do we get" from the larger church, Eaton says congregations should ask "What do we get to do as synod or as the ELCA?" Plan to Join "Means of Grace" Conversation This Fall
The ELCA will be having conversation in the coming months about Communion practices and our statement on The Use of the Means of Grace. Bishop Eaton asks that rostered leaders and congregations plan to engage in study and conversation about our practice. Resources to facilitate this discussion and a forum to offer feedback will be available in mid-August at http://www.elca.org/worship. In the meantime, you can download the statement, The Use of the Means of Grace, here.

Save the Date for Bishop's Convocation
"Creating Generations of Generosity" Nov. 12-14 at Hotel Bethlehem For the first time in history, six generations are living and worshipping in our congregations simultaneously. To thrive congregations must find ways to relate to all of these cohorts, even though they respond to very different approaches to faith formation and institutional support. Join us at the 2014 Bishop's Convocation as we explore the connection between story, faith and generosity, and congregational practices that nurture generous Christians. "Creating Generations of Generosity" will be held Nov. 12-14 at the Hotel Bethlehem, and features two well-known generational observers and stewardship specialists, David Lose and Renée LiaBraaten. Watch your email and http://ministrylink.org for more information.
