Resources for Preaching on Lent and Climate Change                                  

 

Lenten Text Workshop -- The Rev. Dr. David L. Lose of Luther Seminary and workingpreacher.org will lead a  study of lectionary texts for Lent on Tuesday, Feb. 25 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 132 E. Valley Forge Rd., King of Prussia PA 19406. Gather for bagels and coffee 9:30 to 10 am, followed by text study from 10 until 2:30 pm. Cost is $35 and includes a box lunch. Prepare to Preach on Climate Change -- Get ready to address the faith dimensions and moral implications of climate change in your preaching during a workshop on Tuesday, Feb. 11, 1 to 2:30 pm, led by The Rev. Dr. Karyn L. Wiseman. Registration information at http://conta.cc/1dCS637

 

This interactive workshop will explore upcoming lectionary texts that connect with climate change themes, provide resources for preaching preparation and specifically address constructive and faithful ways to deal with resistance to preaching about climate change and its implications for the faith community.  Dr. Wiseman is Associate Professor of Homiletics and Director of United Methodist Studies at the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia.

 

The workshop, available online or in-person in Harrisburg, is sponsored by Pennsylvania Interfaith Power and Light (IPL) and Lutheran Advocacy Ministry in PA, and ties into IPL's National Preach-in of Climate Change, Feb. 14-16. LTSP Offers Refreshment, Renewal Day for Women

"The Thread that Binds: 150 Years of Women in Ministry" is the theme for LTSP's annual rest, refreshment and renewal day for all women, lay and clergy on Saturday, April 12 from 9 am to 4 pm. This is an opportunity for women to renew, reconnect and refresh physically, emotionally and spiritually in a day of fellowship and gathering. Events include gatherings around topics including "Women and Leadership," "Bible Stories on Strong Women," and "Women and Burnout/Stress," as well a panel discussion with women from various faith communities who are doing distinctive and dynamic things in their ministries. Early registration for $40, including lunch and refreshments, is available through Jan. 31.

Philadelphia, Gettysburg Seminaries to Explore Heightened Collaboration

In an announcement Jan. 10, LTSP and LTSG said that officers of the two seminaries met in December and agreed to "explore heightened collaboration."

"We recognize the significant challenges facing theological education today, and see in them opportunities for rich partnerships grounded in the history and traditions of our two institutions. We want to serve the church by providing innovative leaders who will carry us into a bold future; we want to see our two institutions thrive far into the future," the statement said.
