Happy New Year!
Best wishes for a happy, healthy, fruitful and missional 2014! From your Synod Staff

Nominations Open for Synod Council

The Southeastern Pennsylvania Synod's Nominating Committee is asking for your help in identifying gifted and qualified persons, both clergy and lay, to serve as nominees for election at the Southeastern Pennsylvania Synod Assembly on May 2-3, 2014.

Every year the Synod Assembly elects members of the Synod Council, which serves as "the board of directors of the synod" and as "its interim legislative authority between meetings of the Synod Assembly."

For Treasurers: Mission Support Deadline is Jan. 31

Thank you for your support of the Southeastern Pennsylvania Synod and the ELCA Churchwide mission through your mission support contributions. As we enter a new year, it would be a good time to review your progress toward your mission support commitment for 2013.

Please note that mission support gifts must be received in the Synod office on or before Jan. 31, 2014 in order to be credited to 2013.

Constitution Changes for Congregations

The 2013 ELCA Churchwide Assembly in August approved  a number of amendments to the Model Constitution for Congregations.  A summary of those amendments may be downloaded at the ELCA website.  Each congregation, through its Congregation Council and/or Constitution Committee, is invited and encouraged to review these amendments and make recommendations for approval by a Congregational Meeting.

Amendments, whether required or not required, that bring a congregation's constitution  into line with the Model Constitution for Congregations may be adopted by a simple majority vote at one legally called Congregational Meeting.  Section *C17.04. of your congregation's constitution provides additional directions.  Consider updating your congregation's constitution now.  Many find it an important and relatively easy task.

For those congregations that have not updated their constitutions in awhile, the 2013 version of the Model Constitution for Congregations,  which includes all of the changes approved by the Churchwide Assemblies since the beginning of the ELCA, may be downloaded here. Congregations may use this document as the basis for updating their constitutions.  More detailed information may be found at: http://www.elca.org/Resources/Office-of-the-Secretary.
