PRAYERS REQUESTED
  • Prayers are requested for our sisters and brothers in the Black Hills of South Dakota and the 23 ELCA congregations there. Multiple feet of snow have taken out trees, power lines, made roads impassible, and killed as much as 5 percent of the state's 1.5 million cattle, which will cause significant economic impact.
  • Prayers for wisdom and guidance for those who serve in government that they will remember "the least of these" in their decision making.
Practice Discipleship Continues Nov. 23

The new Practice Discipleship initiative kicked off with intro sessions around the Synod on Sept. 27. Now the series continues with the first of three Saturday workshops on Nov. 23, 10 am to 3 pm, at St. Luke, Devon. The topics are "Dog Eating Chicken" and "Theories of Culture." The sessions will explore how our language and cultural assumptions engage the Gospel.

How is Your Congregation's Website?

Are you satisfied with your congregation's website? At last Sunday's Communicators' Network Gathering, Bob Fisher shared tips for congregations looking to evaluate their existing website or develop a new site.

Many people - especially millennials - use the web to check out a congregation prior to visiting. Web-savvy visitors are looking for sites that are visually appealing, share the congregation's story and personality, look professional, and make key information easily available.

At the gathering Fisher shared a tool that congregations can use to evaluate an existing site or as a guide to outlining a new site.

You're invited to join Bishop Claire Burkat and Pastor Stephen Godsall-Myers for a 10-day tour of the birthplace of the Reformation, June 15-25, 2014. What better way to prepare for the 500th anniversary of the Reformation2017 than to visit historic sites connected with Martin Luther!

Flyers' Sneaker Drive for Jane Addams Place

As part of the Flyers Charities Halloween 5K and one-mile walk on Saturday, Oct. 26, the Flyers will collect sneakers that will be donated to Lutheran Settlement House Jane Addams Place to be worn by children and families facing homelessness and domestic violence in Philadelphia. Jane Addams Place is a comprehensive emergency homeless shelter in Philadelphia that serves up to 29 mothers with children.

The drive will be held at the Wells Fargo Center. Stop by the 11th Street Atrium to donate your used sneakers and give them a second life with someone who may not be able to purchase their own pair.
