Welcome from Bishop Burkat

The 2012 Southeastern Pennsylvania Bishop's Convocation for rostered leaders begins the day after Election Day this year. Regardless of the presidential, congressional and gubernatorial races taking place across the country, we will all be impacted by the choices Americans make in selecting their political leaders.

The day after these elections we as church leaders will gather to listen, learn and discuss how in the midst of this current polarizing political environment we can faithfully support engagement in the public arena from a Lutheran faith perspective.

Our three presenters, Jessicah Krey Duckworth, Andrew Genszler, and Amy Reumann will identify areas and opportunities for engaging faith formation, faith in action, connecting and advocating, as we explore ways to equip the saints for the work of ministry today.

I look forward to this time apart with rostered leaders for worship, conversation, and renewal. Please invite your colleagues, especially those new to our Synod, to our convocation at a new location, the Historic Hotel Bethlehem.

Dear collegues, brothers and sisters in Christ,

For this year's Bishop's Convocation in Bethlehem, PA (Nov 7-9) I would like to offer a station with Continued Education and Retreat ideas for 2013. I see the convocation as a good time to discern these types of plans for the upcoming year. I am interested in hearing from you and gathering information about educational events and retreats that have been particularly helpful in your continued professional and spiritual development. I really need your help in order to put this together!

Here is what I need to know:

1)  Which speakers and/or conferences that you have attended in the last five years would you recommend for other rostered leaders? Please specify the name of the speaker(s)/conference and the topic and general price range. If there is a website with a link to their 2013 schedule you may include that as well. (I would greatly appreciate it!)

2)  Which retreat centers can you recommend?  (What's their area of strength and price range? A link to their website or 2013 schedule is appreciated.)

3)  Which other local local or national contimnued education events can you recommend?

I am planning to include in this station a wide variety of continued education/spiritual formation events that speak to pastors in different ministry contexts. The idea is that all of us can look at this during the convocation and discern events for 2013. Please help me out end email me your response at Pastor@stpetersnorthwales.org.

Share your story of being in the Public Square

The Convocation Theme is "The Parish and the Public Square." During the closing worship we will be displaying photographs of our church at work in the word. We need your help. Do you have photos of your congregation in the world -- in service projects, on mission trips, on advocacy visits, etc.? If you do please send photos to Bob Fisher via email so that we can include them.
